  • Wanted What will £400 get me?

OK so I've just started playing snooker again after a year out of the game and I am in need of a stick (Preferably a 3/4)

I have about £400 and I am after the best cue I can find preferably with case and extensions but extensions aren't imperative.

    I am 6ft 2 and absolutely gorgeous (I JOKE!) so I am thinking maybe a 59" cue?

What is the best tip size to have?
    What is the best tip?
What is the weight I should go for? (I'm guessing 19)
    What size butt?

I personally have never held a cue that feels as nice as a John Parris cue so I'm edging towards one of his at the moment.

Awwww, bless the innocent ones. They know not what they do...

£400 gives you a lot of choice.

It doesn't give much choice in your cues!

        What will £400 get me?

I'm not new to snooker and I've played with some Trevor Whites, Wooldridge, Parris and hunt & o'byrne cues. But I just loved the feel of a Parris.

So no need for sarcasm thank you

Well i think a Parris classic (plain ebony) with extentions comes near £400. Few months wait perhaps for that type of cue.

Plan TW in budget with no extentions but 45ish week wait.

If your anywhere near Leeds pay craftsman a visit and try as many as you can and find out what specs are for you. Nobody can tell you whats best for you!

In saying that as an average 58'', 9.5mm tip is pretty average specs imo.

Unfortunately..I am no where near leeds. Cheltenham based so no trips to Craftsman anytime soon lol.

I have seen a 3/4 Parris Elite on Ebay with extensions for £325 + £25 P+P which I was considering as I love the design of the Elite. But then I woke up this morning and thought to my self...I will have around £400...do I want a second hand cue or get my friend who is good friends with a few pro snooker players to drive me to JP in London to look at a few already made cues there so I know it's brand new and genuine. Only down side to that is for £400 at Jp, I could get a brand new Elite but with no case :/

I'm assuming Wooldridges cues are brilliant but expensive lol

If you want a 'cue for life' then really trying out some cues to see how they feel is going to be neccesary.

Worls Snooker is Bristol have a selection of 20 or so cues and a small table to try them on. All alot cheaper than your budget though..

New/used is a tricky one, i wanted new and my last two cue buys have been new, however i wouldnt hesitate to get used now from a reputable seller.

I wouldn't say a cue for life is what I am searching for but I know if I spend say £400 on a cue, I wont be getting rid of it anytime soon unless I could sell it for pretty much the price I paid.

the reason I have personally set the price at this range is because I think, for that amount of money, you will get the name, the quality, the look, the feel and your moneys worth. I haven't found a decent looking cheap cue and I'm particularly a fan of Snakewood

                    What will £400 get me?

At the moment I am borrowing my friends Trevor White 1 price. When I played a few years ago, I had a John Parris until I was mugged on the way home

                        What will £400 get me?

It's ok I guess. My JP was 58.5" 30mm butt, 9mm tip and 18oz. Not too sure on the TW

I agree with what has been said earlier about making a special trip to somewhere like Craftsman or Green Baize where you can try out cues to your hearts content to find that special characteristic that you hold great value for when you had that Parris cue.

I guess it's worth it to travel all that way if you have tried many cues since and have not found that magic ingredient you are looking for in playability.

You probably don't need me to tell you that your next Parris cue could play very different to the one you had but you never know and might get lucky!

                          Good luck with your search

                            What will £400 get me?

I'm not 100% going to get a Parris but it's looking that way for now until I can find something as good or better for same sort of price.

I would visit all the places but unfortunately I do not drive

Am I the only person in the world who struggles to see why John Parris cues command such high respect?

Out of the ten or so I have had the odd frame with I can genuinely say that only one of them felt as good as my bet-won cue craft cue. That was a one piece cue which wasn't the most decorative and was older than me.

Peradon cues are a waste of your cash too. The majority of Glover cues I've struck around with are smart.

I'm going to be purchasing a Wooldridge cue when I get my new table as two of my pals have those cues (a shark I think?) and I've tonned up with them both. Their not cheap though but £400.00 should cover something special.

                              Just my humble opinion.
