Im pretty sure theyre marked out in pencil, then the shape is planed into the wood before the ebony is glued on, so to have them even at the crossover and at the top the shape thats planed out has to be identical for all 4 so theyre dead even? Not really sure how they get rounded at the top, can't see planing making this shape in the wood or is just naturally how the wood goes after being planed down?

Always been interested in how theyre made, just not much floating around showing the process, robert osborne has a load of pics on his website showing a 1 piece cue being made but doesnt really explain all that much in terms of laying out splicing.
This is possible. Mike woolridge gets it right from my experience on cues and so does gbl cues. The trick is to get the bottoms plane square. Dead square or else the crossovers as u put it are not alligned evenly. The tops are easier to get right as it can be done visually. But the crossovers require absolutely square planing. And the bevelled surfaces has to be absolutely same angle to the bottom of the cue or else one will get uneveness top and bottom of splices.
