Just one point in correction. I use the Personal and Gift option to send money via Paypal and I ALWAYS pay a small fee at my end, usually less than 1% but still a fee nevertheless. I don't know why this only happens in Canada. For example if I send 300pounds to the UK I will pay somewhere around 2.50pound fee.

Also correct, if you link to a chequing account then there is no need to put money into your paypal account. When you link it they will first of all deposit a small amount and then withdraw a small amount to ensure everything works and then will let you know you are ready to go. It took them 2 days with me.

Hi Terry, you may find the reason for this is because your PayPal account is Primary linked to your Debit Card, if you change this to your Bank account direct, you should see no more fees.
A member on TSF told me this sometime ago and I have had no fees since. I did not thinkat the time this was an issue but since I have removed my card detail entirely and left only the bank account.
Your second point is also correct, after about 2days you will see the two transactions, follow the instructions to verify the bank link.

Thanks for the tip. I started my paypal on my credit card and it was still listed although my bank account is primary. I just went in and deleted the credit card.

Now all I need to check it is to buy a cue.

Well, I took your advice and deleted my credit card and have my account as primary. I went to buy a cue today and it would only send the money via 'eCheck' with a 6-8 day wait for the seller. They said first they have to transfer money from my bank account to my paypal account and then send the money.

Also, I STILL PAID a 0.5% paypal fee when sending as a Gift.

As the seller wanted to see his money right away we had to go through handstands to cancel the initial payment. Then I had to add my credit card as back-up and re-send the payment and even though my account is listed as primary they still take the 0.5% fee for a gift.

Now I have to wait for the seller to get home from work and see if he got the second payment OK, as they said they would need 3-4 days to confirm my credit card and I have to send them back a code which will appear on my credit card bill.

So for anyone on here, don't lightly cancel out your credit card as back-up on your paypal account as it will lead to all sorts of problems and confusion
