I have a Tony Glover hornbeam here which is quite stiff, at 18oz with a 9.3mm ferrule and is 57.5" long. Would that be close enough? I have no extensions but you could get them easier than me. Price is $600(CAN) + shipping which works out to around 370GBP + shipping of around 60GBP.

The cue is forward-balanced and feels a bit heavier. Butt diameter is 29mm with balance at 19"

            x53:

Before you say something be certain you know what you're talking about. A cue balanced at 19" is called 'forward balanced' and is considered normal. Hornbeam is more dense than ash and therefore there's more weight in the shaft and also hornbeam is smoother and a lot more stiff than ash or maple and you can get quite a stiff cue with a slim and very smooth shaft.

A 'normal' balance is considered around 16-17", with butt heavy cues balanced at 14-15" and forward balanced cues at 18-19" and they are all quite normal. A forward balanced cue will feel heavier on the bridge and to play with (for some reason, I'm not sure why).

This cue is real fancy with ebony, snakewood and stripey maple splices, 12 splices and 8 veneers I think.

As Terry has said, the Glover shaft is hornbeam, smoother than ash and maple apparenetly, very similar to maple in that there is no obvious grain (like ash).
Many people do like hornbeam instead of maple/ash.

do you think it would be possible to reduce the weight of the glover cue to nearer 17oz, is it possible to see some pictures.
                      Cheers

                        irfeen75:

I just checked the weight on my set of jeweler's scales and it's 17.9oz. I think you would have to send the cue to Glover but he could reduce the weight. The $600(CAN) is approx 360GBP or so. The cue is perfectly straight and the hornbeam is very smooth, similar to maple but with no visible grain. It is a very solid hitting cue with lots of power.
