  • eBay Mastercraft custom made cue

Got a brand new custom made Mastercraft cue for sale.
Let me say at the start that ALL of the splices are out by between 1 and 2mm. In addition the cue needs grain filling and re-finishing by someone who knows what they are doing. Im not putting a price as I have no idea what a cue in this condition needing this kind of TLC would be worth. I paid £300 for it, I know im not going to get anywhere near what I paid for it. Im open to genuine offers or a least a bit of advice about what I might get for it if I put it up on ebay.
Maple shaft, Stripy ebony butt, four secondary splices of Tulipwood then four splices of Bloodwood.
    57 inches, 18 ounces, 9mm tip, 30mm butt diameter.
3/4 split at 12 inches, joint in butt for extension and extension included.
Any questions or if you would like pics please email me at skull1@hotmail.co.uk.
    Thanks in advance crazy 8

Why does a brand new cue need grain filling and refinishing? Someone attack it with sandpaper? I thought these came with an oil finish.

I noticed that when I was down at Bridlington for ye European championships just there the8ballstore.com stall had some cues that were rebadged for them and after talking to the guy he told me it was master craft that made them and most of these cues needed refinished and refrained and the veneers were also not flush with the ebony

That's a surprise to me. I never heard much to recommend them for playability but have seen some good-looking examples in the past on here. 300 quid should buy you a great finish.

Have you made a complaint? It would be best just to return the thing for a refund, if you're the person who bought it from them.

Left them voicemail but no one ever got back in touch with me. To be honest im that P$*£ed off about it I just want rid of it. Ill take what I can get for it and put it down as an expensive lesson learned.

Don't know what the problem is with Mastercraft now. Standards have slipped quite a bit. They were never that good at responding to e-mails but generally when you got them on the phone they were very helpful. Recently I had dealings with them re a cue. They promised to deliver on various different dates all of which were not met. Various excuses given like "really busy" and "in the post" and even "we forgot about it". The cue eventually arrived and TBH was pretty good. Only complaint was that the joint was not that well finished. Its not that smooth when you run your finger over it. Easy fixed but can't be bothered sending it back to Mastercraft. I used to have no hesitation in recommending Mastercraft to anyone who wanted a good mid-range price cue. Nowadays I would go with Greenbeize or Craftsman.

If the problem was their fault you shouldn't let them off like that. I've had three similar experiences and did the same thing you suggested in one case, losing about $900 hard-earned on a cue that shouldn't have been shipped.

If they've been slack, why should you be the one to lose out? Send emails etc, and mention TSF to them, that has helped in a few cases here.

I know what your saying mate but I found them that unproffesional to deal with that I dont think I can bring myself to get in touch with them without really losing my temper. I think its best for me if I just get rid of it, put it down to one of lifes lessons and never recommend them to anyone. I agree with you Big Meek, if your looking for a mid-price cue you wont go wrong with Stu at Greenbaize. I bought a cue from him last month and its top quality and Stu is one of lifes gentlemen.

I too had a really bad experience with them. Difficult getting in touch with them and then messed about over delivery times. I eventually told them to stuff the cue. Thank god I only lost a £20 deposit. Best avoided at all costs. Seen a few of their cues since and poor quality it has to be said.

Very strange all this; a year or so ago a friend of mine got a custom cue from Mastercraft, all communications were quick and informative, delivery was before forecast and the cue was very nice and my friend has been happy with it ever since.
                            Up the TSF! :snooker:

Couple of things have happened in the last year or so. One of the guys had a serious family illness to cope with and was taking some time out. (This was posted on The Forum a while back.) The other thing that was going on was that they were swapping out a lot of their equipment and this caused them to get way behind with their orders. (Got this info when I phoned up one time asking about my cue). When these sort of things happen with a small two man business its probably difficult to keep on top of things.
I'm not sure what the real situation is of course.
