Was this cue an experiment or something? The weight is a little lighter than normal and no flat on the butt plus it doesn't look to be completely finished. It looks like a great piece of ash with nice straight grain though and also the price is right is someone wanted to finish the butt and would be a good beginner's cue for a good price.

It is a great piece of ash Terry, and the cue is what it is, take it or leave it at that price I say.
My cues are almost totally hand made, I have a table top planer that I use to take the cue blank down to around 35mm around but from there on it's all hand planes and sandpaper, even the drilling is done by hand, not an electric drill, a hand drill.
Don't trust myself to drill too far up the butt so therefore can't fit too much weight so it's lighter than normal for a modern cue but will be perfect for someone.
The butt is slim enough at 27mm so I decided not to have a flat on it.
I don't finish my cues glass smooth like some do, I prefer wood to look and feel like wood which is what my own playing cue is like. I think the slight imperfections in a cue are what makes it perfect for a particular player and that's what I aim for when making one. I do get them dead straight though.

I have french polished and fitted a leather pad to the butt, used a dark grain filler on the shaft and oil finished that and as far as finishing goes that'll do as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not trying to appeal to the Gok Wans on this site who drool over expensive and perfect splicing, I'm trying to appeal to those who want something that suits their game, or if a beginner, something their game can grow with.
If I can do that then I'll be happy.

Have found a new technique (new to me anyway) when splicing the butt to make myself able to fit more weight and the cue I'm working on now is much heavier so I can appeal to more buyers in the future.
      Thanks for your comments, appreciated.
