I get that, just doesn't stop me from being curious though !

I got two top end GBL cues. Both the best I played with.

Are you guys sure GBLs are made in Thailand, that's a surprise. If all other sticks are made abroad eventually then there will be mega premiums on JP cues, cripes, a piece of wood being an investment..

It's no secret they're made in Thailand hence, even states it on his website, he's the only one of many to be upfront about this topic...

Might be, but this is missing the point of having an expensive cue. Why buy an Aston Martin if you can get an Honda that drives well too?

Here's my take on this... John Parris has probably established his brand as the most sought after around the world. However as everyone should know, every cue plays different and that any cuemaker can produce a cue that will feel/look to the owner that it's the best he's played with. I don't think John Parris is the best brand now myself but he's up there.

Cues have a certain level of craftsmanship that can't be exceeded and i believe more and more snooker players are starting to wake up to the fact they don't need to spend £100's extra on a cue that can have the same level of craftsmanship or better for a lot less from other brands!

Some people like to have the best(perceived brand) just as a fashion statement it seems, others as they've got money to burn and it's no big loss if it doesn't work out, obviously reputation and professionals also sway people to follow suit and understandably so...

In reply to your question cars are very different to cues, that Aston Martin sports car will cost a hell of a lot more to make, for obvious reasons and the big one of the materials/parts will be up there with the best you can put on a road car. But i do see your point to a degree and it will come down to affordability and personal taste, that can't be judged on a top end snooker cue because the materials/craftsmanship from the so called best will be the same as they can't be bettered at the minute anyway...

                          Yes me too.

Anyone badging a product as their own, which suggests it has been made in the UK, when in reality it's been made somewhere else by someone else, outside the UK, is nothing short of fraud in my eyes.

It really pisses me off that this sort of crap threatens to tarnish ALL UK makers. Some of us do our own work, solely here in the UK.

Exactly. Why are the still charging 4-500 quid also if they've not made it or part made it.

Because they can mate, its that simple. I personally think its disgraceful to claim a cue is hand made in the UK when really it has just been spliced and finished in the UK but made in Thailand, sadly this is going on more than some people realise. Also I think they charge 400-500 as its all part of the illusion, because the price makes you think "it must be hand made in the UK". Now if they were 200-300 quid like crispian jones customised cues or GBL cues then you would suspect they weren't fully made in the UK as that's too cheap! Now don't get me wrong GBL cues are great and so are a lot of other cues made in Thailand (phoenix, mastercue), but I think customers should be informed by the cue maker if the cue is not fully made in the UK!
