  • Wanted a great 3/4 cue needed as soon as possible

OK guys help needed. I desperately need a great cue. I have been trying to get one but the more I research the more complicated it gets. Every seller says he has a great and unbeatable cue. I am in Denmark so I cannot try before I buy. Besides if someone asks 700£ for a cue worth 200£ by telling me that this is the 1% top wood etc. I have no way of telling. I mean if it really is top 1% and that actually makes a difference then I have no problems paying the asked price but how do I tell?

I do not have energy to order a custom one and then wait for months. I just want a great cue and I do not care if it is used or new or what is the brand name on it. I have had some interactions with people and I do not know much about cue making but I do have a decent IQ so I do not get fooled easily. But I cannot wait any longer and must have a cue now.

[The specification are not rigid. slight variation is perfectly fine by me e.g. I am not fussy and can live with 9 or 10 mm tip.]

type 3/4 (1 piece is not an option due to logistics)
    shaft ash
butt ebony and no frills no fancy stuff
    length 56-58
    joint preferably 12" or 16"
    tip 9.5 mm
    weight 18-19 oz
    butt diameter 29-30mm

    What I want from you?

guidance/tips/pointers ... anything that could get me a great cue. My budget is 200-800£ (including a simple cue craft case and extensions). I only play once in a while as a hobby so the cheaper the better but I can pay if its worth it. The trouble is I have no way of telling what a cue should cost. All I know is that when I hold a great cue in my hand or play a few shots I can tell for sure what is a great cue and what is crap. However, I have to buy without trying ... even if I can return the cue shipping it back and forth is a waste of money and more importantly a lot of hassle. HELP!!!!!

Well if you buy a Trevor White cue your pretty certain to get a great cue, and resale excellent if it doesn't work out.
Parris too hold there value really well

Excellent cue maker, my mate has a custom made 1 piece Tony Wilshaw, ash shaft, ebony butt with 4 thuya burr splices over cream veneers and an ebony front wedge over a cream veneer! Beautifull cue with level splices, excellent finish and plays great. It was over £400. 3x world 8 ball world champion Gareth Potts and England 8 ball pool captain Lee Kendall use his cues aswell as do a few snooker pros. Id say he'd be getting an absolute bargain at that price.

I used to think this was a forum for snooker lovers but I now think its a place for wananbe business icons who scratch eachothers' back just to make an odd 50£ here and there by telling stories. the reality though is that 'handmade' cues are mostly "thaimade" cues. thanks Crispian Jones!

This is precisely why I now have trouble trusting anyone from here. Its like a mafia - an outsider is 'playing games' and a 'liar' if he questions anything basic like why on earth a used (and who knows how bad) JP cue is being sold at 280£ when one can order a brand new for 319£ anyway

I'm confused now, one person says your messing about, and when i ask why, you show a pm from someone totally different ????
Ohh and by the way, the earlier JP cues ARE worth a lot more than the newer ones, for the reason stated in that pm

and mr alan reynolds has just received a call from me and if he had had his basic schooling, he would have been able to see that +45 is the international dialing code of Denmark .. hence proved I am who I claim to be. On top of that he speaks some language I do not understand because I only understand English not some village dialect from some far off village. I am so pissed. I thought this would be a place to get some help and apart from a rare exception or two, I just come across idiots claiming to be world famous cue dealers. Give me a break guys. I just needed a cue and at a fair price in a fair deal but this place is like hell. If you can help ... great .. otherwise just ignore my message ... why spread lies about me or bring my integrity into question.

My mistake. I confused the two idiots. I already stated I do not know much about cues. Even if a certain JP is worth more for some reason, I should be told that in a polite tone and I would have considered that.

Only thing I expected was a clear response with some information in response to the questions asked. I could have been told whether there was a case or not and whether it came with it or needed extra cash.

Some very special JP with red "f*** glue" just like the "handmade" cues from Jason Owen and the like.
