  • Century G3 Tip not taking to any chalk

Hey All i recently got the new Century G3 tip, I typically play with Elkmasters but the tip I've had for like 4 weeks and the last 2 weeks has started not to take the Chalk despite 'roughing' it up. I play with Taom v2 chalk but I've tried the V10 and and Triangle and all chalks are not settling/are patchy. Do I have a bad tip or is this a known issue?
The tip was put on by a snooker shop and the first two weeks were great but now it's awful miscuing and feels extremely hard.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same issue with a G3 after a month or so. Started miscueing so went back to an Elk.

Try the ADR147 pressed tips, you won't be disappointed.

Which one would you recommend the laminated tips or the pressed calf tips?

After years of using Elks I’ve got a G3 on my new cue ,no problems with the Taom chalk either .The Elks were getting a pain trying to find a good one ,the G3 seems fine ,takes chalk well and holds its shape ,but like anything you can get a bad one I suppose .

I play with G3’s and I noticed that I only started to get miscues when I changed to Taom V2 from Triangle. I went back to Triangle but got fed up with the marks on the table so I’m now playing with V10. I’ve found the miscues are less now.
G3’s are very popular and I haven’t heard any issues with miscuing with that tip…. Taom V2 on the other hand .

Cheers guys I'm definitely changing to V10 chalk providing it suits the tip. I'm hoping it's a one-off bad tip and will try the Century ones again in the future.

As Mikee says , you could have got a dodgy one.
With the Taom chalk it’s imperative to make sure your chalking up on a regular basis especially on screw shots. I also give my tip a going over with one of the needle gadgets every time I get the cue out of the case( at least 3 times a week or whenever the missus lets me out )

Thanks Starsky, I'm literally having to chalk up after every shot at first i thought it was the V2 chalk, but I've used the V10 and good old triangle but both having the same effect. I've got the needle gadget too funnily enough but after a week of using that and sanding/filing it I've just gave up. I'm getting very little screw and miscuing a lot more i tend to play 3/4 times a week too.

Definitely sounds like a dodgy tip in that case. I don't use those tips personally at the moment but have fitted them for a few people and no problems. Century are usually graded and tested so pretty consistent in quality, I think you've just been unfortunate.

G’day mate. I use G3 about 3 years. To fix the problem use a cue tip sharper (scaffer), or sandpaper (80 – 120 Grit) to make the surface rough. Your tip should look like a carpet and do this every month
