  • Cue case

I have a Glover leather 1pc cue case off ebay about 18yrs ago and I heard they are now quite sort after as they are no longer made. I'm looking at getting a new case soon but who is the best cue case maker today?

i would of said Crispan Jones but he's retired now from case making and makes cues instead. Dave johnson - allen in the last few years has started making Cheddar Classic cases again. Bought one a few years ago, very good. Probs like one ones of old in terms of quality but alot lighter to carry. highly recommended. You might get a similar quality case by maximus or GBL. Stu green got some nice ones on greenbaize website.

I remember Cheddar Clasics they were the first to make the type of leather cue cases before everyone else is now doing, also remember they cease trading around 2006. Dave Johnson Allen must be quite old now. I seen his facebook page and the variety of cases he made is amazing.

What aboout Parris cue cases? Did'nt know they make cases. Do they sub contract the work? Also Stamford?

yeah Parris and Stamford are very good too. Think they will be subcontracted. But not sure by who. Bit pricey though and people seem to go for these because of the name, believe there's a big waiting list on the site. for the Parris ones, like the ultimate cues. They fetch a premium 2nd hand too, saw a few go on ebay.

Personally i'd go with Cheddar, quality is still second to none.

Hi all, 1st post, so be gentle, I had a handmade leather case by Trefor White in the mid 90's, along with a number of cues. Brilliant quality and now so sorry I didn't keep them 😪

Parris case prices are crazy but as long as orders keep coming in they can charge the high price. The Parris cue logo is just printed on, this will wear out over time. I wonder who makes it for them? They don't have exotic animal skins so I rule out Thailand. If it is in the UK there must be a none disclosure agreement so I would suspect a previouse independent cue case maker suddenly cease making cue case anymore around the time Parris start stocking their own branded cases.

Huh, I don't follow. If the cases are made by someone employed for Parris, then they're made by Parris. Why would anyone need a non-disclosure agreement? It is not like they're buying a generic product in and just adding a label, they're bespoke cases made to order. Prices are crazy though, I'd agree with that, but I'm happy with a £25 case off ebay, so they're not really aimed at people like me

I think Parris cases are made by a third-party maker, possibly in the UK, but not 100%.

Green Baize cases are very well made and are from Thailand (or definitely Far East anyway )
                Up the TSF! :snooker:

Its made by a subcontractor for Parris. It would be made by someone with experience in cue case design and production, an existing workshop with their own logistic in sourcing of materials. Going into partnership with JP.

Thats right. We will never see social media pictures of JP overseeing production of his cue cases😉

He needs to keep a closer eye on the cues he turns out, never mind the cases.

Some of the splice work I've seen has been way out.

What about the shaft, is the grain straight?
The grains on some of ther Ultimate are not much different to their "Collection" range but maybe they are finished better or play better?

Shafts are very subjective, what one person likes another won't, so I wouldn't criticise any appearance wise. The finish on them I have read a few people moan that it's not the best but I don't know. How they play again is subjective, what one person likes another won't. I don't hold how a cue plays against any cue maker as I pretty much hate the way most cues play, so I'm not the best to judge.
For me you are paying a premium for the name, like any big brand, again not really a criticism, it's just the way of the world, no one is forced to buy them but some people like to own them so fair enough.
