  • best tip shapers

I've been playing pool for years, but am getting into pool and snooker now quite seriously. I have my own cue, howere, the tip just needs a bit of shaping.
I have been looking on the net for info on shapers and reviews but there is hardly anything.
Was wondering what you guys would suggest on which shaper is the best or which way to shape your tip is best.
I have been deciding whether to get the joe porper Cut Rite Tip Shaper/Cutter but not sure what it's like

would be grateful for any help!

    cheers!

The best one for me is a sheet of wet and dry you can manipulate what shape you llike then and only costs 50p max. I find tip shapers too domey if that makes sense.

Either a small file or fine sandpaper is fine. I've never found a tip shaper that worked better.

just use a tip file, and i swear by using nail files to shape tips

personally i wouldn't waste my time nor money with specialist gadgets for something like shaping a tip.

hmmm , only thing is i don't trust myself to get the right radius as i'm new to this, does it have to be exact? or near the dime/nickel radius?
Is there anything else i could measure the tip against?

also these ultimate tip tools any good if anyone knows have used them?

I dont think you need anything but a piece of sandpaper or a file. Have you seen Mike Wooldridge's site, has some good pictures. ADR also has a tip guide on here.

P.S i just looked at the ebay link, 17 pound for what appears to be a piece of sandpaper on a dome? Sounds like an awful waste of money.

no it doesn't need to be exact - as long as it is a bit domed or rounded it'll be fine ...

I watched a bit of the Welsh Open today and all the close-ups of tips I saw seemed to be very very round ... I personally don't like that shape - I feel the tip slides off the cue-ball when applying max spin ... I personally prefer a fairly flat dome shape ...

but each to his own - it's just a matter of personal preference

[edit] forgot to add, I'm with those who just use a small fine(ish) file to shape their tip ...

I just use nail boards from spar 20 for 49p, nice and flexible and super cheap you can also do your nails with them while your waiting.

17 quid for a job that requires the simple use of a file or sandpaper
