Wire wool... Where'd you get yours from?

Hi,

I'm currently arranging myself a snooker maintenance pack based on the threads on here. Have got a few bits already but am currently trying to find wire wool. I have read on here two grades are worth getting: 000 and 0000.

Can anybody suggest where they get theirs? No local hobby craft stores have them, and it seems quite expensive off of eBay (That said, I don't know how much I should be looking to pay anyway!).

Wilkinsons have some cheap however they do not have grades on, only "Fine", etc. Anybody know if these would be suitable and what grades the Wilkinsons equate to?

just look around D.I Y shops, but make sure that it is the grade you are looking for, if you still can't find any, B&Q is a good bet.

Ebay, tool shop, either. I wouldn't say ebay is expensive, it's 5 pound for a roll that will last a long time. Don't know if this is the cheapest i just picked the first. I think if its words your looking for "very fine" or "ultra fine" or something similar and you shouldn't go far wrong.

Just to confirm, do I need 0000 and 000? Or just one of them? If so, which? I've definitely read both on the forum (One post suggested using one and then the other)...

finer the better so 0000. They might have meant 0000 and just missed an 0. its an easy thing to do!

Halfords mate, they have all the finest grades of wire wool and sandpaper you can possibly get.

Its used to finish the paint job on cars.

Great advice - Thanks. Currently the finest sandpaper I have is 320 grade which was the best Wilkinsons had... But obviously now I know Halfords will be better in future (Will the 320 grade have *any* use in snooker maintenance?)...

In any case, I don't expect I'll be needing to use any of this stuff yet... My cue is new and at the moment is absolutely spot on (Loving it)... But I'm getting all over-protective of it and want to ensure I've got everything to hand incase I need to tend to it at a moments notice.

I would never use sandpaper on my ferrule. You'll end up with flat spots if the grade is not very fine.

Liberon ultrafine wire wool is prob the best out there.

i just bought a full roll of Liberon ultrafine wire wool, and I m not sure If I ll ever be able to use all of them in my entire life!!!!

Homebase sell it too ... I might be wrong but if my memory serves me correctly, it's actually in the "wood care" aisle or very close to it ...

however LavaChild, although extremely commendable of you, I suggest you don't worry too much about the technicalities and start worrying about the really difficult stuff like hitting the little darlings in the holes ... or even harder, getting the white ball to go where you want it to ....
