  • Just bought some of thes tips having always used elks . To save time filing my tips to get them to the height i like I used to slice a bit off the bottom . Thinking of doing the same with these , as I dont fancy filing these to the desired height , they are much harder than elks . Has anyone tried this with these , id like to know before I try it .

        • they are not that thick i would stay away from cutting if you don't have to they will be very hard.

          • Hi Andrew , i've just received the GBL tips from yourself , they do look quite high . But are you saying that they should just be left to bed in ? They are higher than the MW Tips , so i assume it is just down to personal preference . I look forward to trying

            Thanks
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

i would just be careful if you really don't need to touch them don't - if you cut down tips they are often harder because there is less tip to absorb the impact.

Thanks adr , i,ve received my tips and they are slightly higher than Elks . If I didnt cut an elk then I felt they took a lot of playing before they were bedden in to my liking . Looking at the pro tips they will take even longer , hence the reason asking if anyone else cuts these tips .

                    • Well I just cut a third off one of these and they are very hard to cut freehand . I had a brand new erwin blade and had to turn it around half way through .

Well worth the effort though if you dont like a high tip , no matter how hard they are a high tip just feel like a block of wood on my cue .

                      Now for the other four

                      • ive had this tip on me n my brothers cue, still playing wonderfully :P

had on for about 2 n a half weeks. theyre thin cause we sanded them down, because i use a 9mm tip, and therefore, didnt want the tip coming off with a miscue if it was too high. =]

                        • dont get this. surely the reason you get the grip with the white is because of the height of the tip ?
now when i used elks (am using one now as me GP came off other day an waiting stu to send me a pack) the problem with a high tip is they're too soft. what works for the granite pro in my mind, is you have the height to influence the bite the tip gets, however, the compactness of the tip, means you dont have the cushioned contact that maybe takes the bite out of the ball.

well, yes and no. last time i left a tip really high, 1 miscue, sent the tip coming off, and i had to put it back on. to be honest, it still plays just as well, a bit thinner. only this time, if i miscue accidentally, the tip is less likely to come off =]

                            • the tip shouldnt fly off regardless of height if its fitted properly.
the height youve sanded those down to they wont last long as they are nearly at the height before youd think about replacing them.

well well ive had them on for close to 3 weeks now, my cue (the one to the left) is the tip i took off my old cue, so thats been on there a month n a half, and the other one, is one i fitted about 2n a half to 3 weeks ago for my brother. his one mushroomed heaps tho, and went flat, but now that its played in, its kept its shape like that. i didnt sand his one down much. i do plan to change them very soon, once my new tips come in :P hopefully will b less than 2 weeks.

for the past 2 to 3 weeks, ive been playing about 4 hrs a day. which is, more than average? lol some days its 8+ hours :S snooker and pool. tips still work fine tho =] just gotta wait for shipping of new tips :P
