  • Which glue to use for Re Tipping

Usually use Loctite super glue gel but been having problems with finding one that isnt faulty,3 different tubes and all rock hard glue, probably out of date or faulty batch...
    Anyway what alternatives are there?
Want one that sets quick and gel type preferably..
Dont want to try something else without asking here.
    Thanks in advance.

i was told that craftsman cues used to use evostick for years up until recently when they started using another kind of resin.

i use evostick and it works great, only snag is you have to give it 24hrs for glue to fully set. i have put many tips on with this and none have come off yet. does not soak into the tip either like most supergules, which make ya tip hard.

Just buy your Loctite superglue gel from somewhere else.

Never had a problem with Loctite yet, are you sure it wasn't frozen from being stored somewhere too cold ?

...Did you have the little bottle type loctite with the grips on the side you push to release the glue?

            If so...
Did you screw the nozzle in before use to break the seal?........

Edit.. slow typing, didnt see last reply...lol.

Do you mean you took the lid off and looked inside and it was hard or you just couldn't get any out? Personally I find the loctite bottles very hard to get anything out of. You have to press on the grips very hard (well I've had to on every one I've bought) to get any glue out, but the glue itself was gel like it should be.

Yes, but did you screw the nozzle in first to break the seal..

I was pressing the grips hard as......... last week and then realised i had to break the seal...after screwing the nozzle the glue comes out nice and easy...

You probably did but thought i'd ask the obvious like...lol.

I did! seal was broken, glue flowed but you had to press it hard enough to make imprints in your fingers to get the glue out. Dunno I've only had a few bottles but they've all been like that

Strange, i've never heard of that, especially if they're from different shops.

Have you tried leaving it next to a radiator to see if it softens ?

Problem with most types of superglue is as soon as you open the tube or these applicators where you press the button that air gets into the bottle and over time causes to glue to go off. If you don't use the glue regularly and over a few weeks if you come to use it say a few months later the glue will basically have gone off.

hey guys, i use to use Selleys superglue, gel and non gel types and found they worked. i Then tried Loctite gel, but in a small tube, and found that to be FANTASTIC. but i lost it the othernight, wen i went to tip my 2 mates cues. he happened to have a tube of Tweetens 10 minute cement tho, which is made for cue tipping. i was just wondering if anyones had experience with this? i did a search, and found next to nothing. its just that personally, i like to try products out on my own cue before i do other peoples, cause then i know if it would work or not. but because it was tweetens, i used it for both their cues anyways. just wondering if anyone had experiences with this glue? and any problems theyve ever had?

i found the selleys superglue sometimes, didnt hold quite as strong as the loctite one. although, the loctite gel ones, sometimes sets too fast, giving me very little time to put it on and align it properly. this tweetends glue so far has been a bit messier to work with, but from wat i can tell, it does hold the tip on just as well.

thanks in advanced for any experienced feedback

epoxy resin such as Araldite - it may take 24hrs to set but, once it has, you'll never ever have nightmares about your tip falling off at a crucial moment ...

superglue gel is OK(ish) if time is of the essence, but it falls apart at less then 5 degrees Celsius and has no lateral strength ... so you can easily remove the tip by putting it in a cold place or, as Ronnie does, by applying a lateral force by biting it off!

Tweeten's tip cement is what was used before epoxy resin and superglue were invented - forget it ...

for newbies to tip changing, the really important thing is to sand the underside (ie flat) side of the tip really, really well - I've only used Elkmasters and Blue Diamonds but both come coated with a dye which prevents any glue from working - it must be removed!
