Thanks I did see all of those but was really asking about using 2" balls on a 10ft table rather than 2" 1/6 and if anyone had any experience.

Hi, I've installed a number of 3/4 and 10 ft tables previously and usually the pocket templates are the same as full sized tables and the ball size is 2 & 1/16th". Playing with 2" balls may be the answer and certainly will be a lot cheaper than getting a fitter to open up the pockets to accomodate full size balls.
Do you feel that the pockets are overtight?
Yes try the 2" size balls, but it may be a little like playing pool - PM me or email me: cueist@genie.co.uk and I'll get you a price on a 2" Aramith 15 red set (they usually come with 10 reds as they're for pub sized pool tables).

I play on a 10' table and I suggest you keep the full size balls as they will sharpen your game but try playing with a maximum 10 reds. The table is too small for 15. We play with 6 most of the time and that works very well.
In Canada we call the 10' table an "American" table and their game was originally designed for 10 reds.
Congratulations on the new table. Wish I had the room for one in my small house.

Actually managed to pick up a set of Aramith Premier 2" with 15 reds yesterday and definitely makes a difference.

Balls even look a better size on the table and play just as well. The pockets on the table are very tight and the 1/16 does makes a difference.

Not sure if i'll always play 15 reds as space is at a premium but may experiment with different quanitites.

Are the pocket dimensions the same for 10' tables as for 12' tables? I will be purchasing a 10' in the near future and want to be sure my installer is using the correct template. Thanks.

On all 3/4 and 10 ft Slate bed snooker tables (not pool tables) that I've supplied / re-covered the pockets are generally the same as full size. Having said that there will be variations in tolerances, so if possible view the table before agreeing to purchase, or at very least get written confirmation that the table is suppied with 2 & 1/16ths" balls and these are correct for the pockets. If it's a pre-2002 Riley, then you should have no worries, likewise an old Burroughs and Watts or similar. It's the more modern tables that may have been manufactured as a snooker/pool hybrid that you want to avoid.

I recently installed and re-covered an eight foot (3 slates) really old table and that comfotably accepted full size snooker balls and even 2 & 14" size Guinness balls! But normally tables below 9 ft are better with a 2" English pool ball sized ball.

Hi Russ, yeah they're pretty good quality. Not Aramith standard, but then if Aramith were making them price would be £40 plus instead of £23.99, so ya pays money , ya takes ya choice, as the saying goes! I've supplied loads of these in all 3 sizes and not had any complaints, so that must be good.

Thanks Dave, can you get a 2" set?
Reason I ask is because I ordered a set from somewhere else & they cancelled the order as they cannot get any stock?

Thank you - that is useful data. I live in the USA so I will be limited to American table makes (such as Olhausen). I am still on the hunt for companies that do quality and "correct" snooker table building and assembly but I also have a budget. I am also limited in size to a 10' table. What I might be able to do is provide the company (if they don't already have that information) with specific dimensions and tolerances. Information like I am learning here will be helpful. Thanks again. I'll continue to have questions, I'm sure.

No worries Robert, glad to be of assistance. I've seen some Olhausen tables at the trade show in London in the past - l gather Olhausen are the market leaders? If you like that sort of thing... They had Pro Player, Loree Jon Jones (multiple Womens World 9 Ball champ apparently) on their stand and I drew 3 all at 9 ball with her... Then she had the cheek to criticise my cue action!! I'd like to see her clear up with a 132 on a real table! LOL
