One more problem I faced was that when I chalk the tip i get some sort of a screeching sound and pretty loud too. Now why would that happen?

i tried the kamui medium hard layered tips and thought it was amazing... i changed as i started miscueing and leaving nasty black marks on the cueball when the tip was getting low and i thought id try something different because the tips are like ten pounds each..
i tried the mike wooldridge supertips and found them FAR too spongy and could not play with them at first...so decided to cut it off and put a kamui back on...its been on a couple of weeks now, the first day i played with it it was awesome...now im in a rutt and playing awful, i sort of miss the softer MW tip i had on previously lol
no pleasing some people
i will say this, the kamui and the MW tip are both good, both very different...if you like hard tips go for the kamui, they are extremely hard and do not lose shape, ever..
i found my MWtip to lose shape almost every shot, and i had that tip on my cue about 3 months!
i get pernickety about tips and shape and shape and shape and then my tip that would normally last a normal player 4 months or so, lasts about 3 weeks for me...lolwhat a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....

Anyways I am switching to MW. Love the consistency of talisman but I am getting limited in terms of range of shots so back to MW I guess.

I've been using the Mastercue pressed tip (Hard), and so far it has worked well for me.
Tried a Kamui black on my friend's Acuerate, the hit was so sweet... it felt like the tip has teeth - how it actually bit into the cueball and generate so much spin!
Wanted to try it on my cue, but my current Mastercue tip is still doing well, so have to wait till it gets ripped off somehowJohn Lim

Hi cue1, I can't answer your question as I've not used a lot of different tips previously.
What I can say is when i change my tip, after I've glued the tip on and before trimming it down, I hold the cue tip down and drop it to hit the ground from around 6 inches height for maybe 15-20 times (let the cue bounce off the ground), in effect bedding it in. Afterwhich I trim the overhang down and shape it, and it's all ready to play!
But is this a good way to do it? I'm not too sure, but it has worked well for me. My current tip was changed around 4 months back and is still playing well.John Lim

I actually do the same when I retip my cue & it works quite well.
When you mention having the current tip on for the past 4 months, do you play on daily basis? And how many hours a day do you play? Is it solo practice or frame play? I suppose those are all factors to be considered when you look at the tip longevity.
When I used to play 4 hours a day/ 5-6 days a week, my MW supertip would last about 3 months which was all I could ask for really:snooker:Winner of C77's Masters Fantasy Game 2010

I play like 2-3 times a week, 4-5 hours a day... speaking of the devil, my tip was a little damaged when I played last night! The funny thing is it is not the usual chip off the edge, but a little cut near the center of the tip... how it happened i have no idea! Hope it lasts for the in-house tournament on this Sunday... gonna change it after that.John Lim

and no i seriously was not exaggerating about losing shape every shot...like, it would be so spongy that it would push the tip off to one side...
although saying that, this new one isnt doing that...
maybe i was unlucky and had a bad one...what a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....

I used Mike's supertips, and liked them at first, but then found that although initially they felt great, after a short while they hardened up so much I found them unplayable. Then I went on to Buffalo Diamond Plus tips, which I have found to be perfect - enough elasticity to generate power, but firm enough to give the 'feel' we want in a tip, and no problems with chalk-holding for as long as I've used them. Another great thing is their consistency - in a box of 50, you get minimum 45 - 50 tips the same, which is how it should be.
I used to play with Blue Diamonds in the 80's, and loved the feel of those tips, but since then the quality and consistency've gone right downhill, so I switched to Elks. The main problem with them is that there's no consistency in a box of Elks at all, and while if you do find a good one, it's a super player, you have to find it first!
I've tried Master cue tips, and found them very good, but a tad too hard for me - however, if you like a harder tip which comes with that bedded-in feel then go for them, they're also of consistent quality. I can say the same for the new Pro Granite tips sold by Green Baize - too hard for me, but a really good quality, consistent tip. I've had loads of really good feedback about them from both snooker and English pool players.
As far as I'm concerned, then the Buffalo Diamond Plus tip is the best on the market at the moment, but you really do have to try them all to find out what suits your game.Il n'y a pas de problemes; il n'y a que des solutions qu'on n'a pas encore trouvées.
