I've tried doing doing it but failed horribly. Can anyone shed some light?
i tend to get something similar when after putting on a slightly oversized tip, i invert my cue and trim the excess side by cutting away from the ferrule (as opposed to making vertical cuts). then with a bit of careful sanding, i think you can get that \___/ shape.
good luck!!
When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back. GET MAD!!
Can you get stu@Greenbaize to relocate down this way?

Maybe if he sees this he might do a short video like Trevor did the other day, or maybe Trevor himself will do it. I know it involved a very sharp knife and it looked as tho he was cutting away from the ferrule
Sorry I have no pics but I am using Talisman Hard at the moment (9.5mm) and I am surprised how much I like it now it has bedded in. I am far from being what I would call a good player and my sense of feel and touch is amazingly poor really. I feel like Neddy the cart horse compared to Red Rum.
The question I would like to add to this thread if the original author doesn't mind me hijacking here is what radius (shape) should the dome of the tip be?
My logical thought process leads me to think that it should be the same as the cue ball thus leading to maximum contact area between cue and ball regardless of the type of shot being played. To this end I use the cue ball as a guide when I am shaping the dome.
For a first time, you have made a nice job of the tip JLiang91. I think when you have chalked it a few times, that the bits of leather will soon disappear.
