BUMP:
We're still looking for a decent set, new or used for our small single table working mens club, though to be fair it seems it's only me and one other person that uses the table and balls to any great extent.....One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!

I dont get many kicks Dwayne, are you sure it isn't your Swail-esque cue action causing it!! Only kiddin.
Just been having a look at snooker ball availability on the net, its hard to know what you are actually buying in some cases so those that may seem cheap are probably not the actual top range.
But then again depends on how many people on the committee at our place actually want to pay for the very best I suppose, as we need the budget to be cost effective of course and have only recently done the refurbishment, roofwork needs doing quite urgently too, we've ordered two new rests and the table is due to be re-clothed and levelled etc soon too. Plus the heating bills are up with the cold winter etc, etc.
I'll have to win a bit more money on the snooker betting and pump it into the club obviously lol. Though it seems to be going the other way at the moment at least on this current Masters tournament!Last edited by pottingpinks; 14 January 2011, 02:01 PM.

What I'd like to ask is do those people who have the top range Aramith Tournament Champion balls actually notice the difference from other types.
Or is it just that its the brand name that means they cost more money.
I see there are other Aramith varieties that seem to cost about half as much in some cases.
The range seems to be: Amarith Tournament Champion, Aramith Premier, and Aramith Crystalate.
Not even sure what the brand is that we have up the club at present without looking again tbh.

I got them for our one table in the social club which we previously had an old set or Aramith (Premier I think) that were used, but not too bad.
The Tournament balls were as described, approx 1 year old, not much used, and after a close inspection we have only found one tiny scratch on the white.
As per your question, do you notice the difference - I would say Yes.
These new balls roll on our table beautifully, I am not annoying my opponents but doing half table width, extreme angle, pots into the middle pockets!
I have noticed that I can now do gentle rolls which before would have stopped inches away from the pocket.
All the best

p.s. IF the work we've just quoted for comes off I'm probably going to buy myself a set of the pro balls and a carrying case for my own and the teams use, don't let that be an excuse for the club to not buy some though! One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!

I also got a ball carry case and found one on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT) which came the following day and is very nice. We do not need a lockable case which are also available.

I still think our table is one of the better ones in the league really, it runs beautifully compared with most others which are in general far too slow I think which makes it hard work manoeuvering the cue ball in most cases unless you have a tremendously powerful cue action (which I haven't, at least not one that stays accurate in such circumstances!).
Actually I'm not sure its rolling off all that much presently compared with how it usually is when due for servicing, at least I've not noticed anything, but the premises is obviously built on land that gradually drops to one side over time so it does usually tend to gradually shift towards the non-roadside end.
When I rack them up and they all end up on the cushion without playing a shot I'll be the first to say lol.Last edited by pottingpinks; 14 January 2011, 04:12 PM.

Obviously we have to be careful with the purse strings Dean as there are only about 30 members at the club and not too many of them call in regularly, though we do have 3 teams in the local league which helps, and is quite a good turnout comparatively with other places.
Though if it is true that these aramith balls last up to 5 times longer than normal balls (assuming they stay on the table!), it might be a worthwhile investment though when you can get Powerglide balls for under £15, some of the committee may need some persuading!

Luckily the table is now starting to be used more often than over the last few years so that threat has gone away.
When I first saw the set of Tournaments on sale, originally the club secretary said no and I told Cazmac1 that I would not be buyign them (I started to feel that Cazmac1 would think me a time waster)
But a few days later I got an email to get them! Luckily they were still available, phew!
I used the premise that why leave the nice new balls in their cardboard (original) box when a reasonably cheap carry case would protect them. And they agreed.
If you can stretch your budget I would go for a set of Aramith Premier (around £50-60 off ebay) or maybe cheaper else where (like this forum?).
I think the Powerglide set may be a disappointment and a false-saving in the long run.
Maybe Wembley will have a few sets after the Master competition that could be for sale (or donated) to a small club liek yours? You can only but ask?
