Nice lookin tip m8. You can polish those scratches out of the ferrule with some 800+ grit wet & dry and work your way up through higher grits to get it gleaming.

          Not too bad though.

I usually like to do mine like this.

Thanks for your kind remarks my head has got bigger by the minute, Question what is the ultimate perfect shape ? If you have been playing for 20 years maybe you could tell me what was the thinking behind the old style flowerpot tip and how did you shape it ?, I looked at a video of John Parris fitting a tip and the result was a very domed almost ball like tip with very little side wall.

Really nice job on this tip. You will get a lot more usage out of this one.
Most people keep their tip with around this amount of dome. You may need to do the occasional re-shape depending on where you regularly strike the cue ball.

                Well done though.

THANKS ! For your kind input I watched a video of John Parris doing a re-tip (His assistant) it ended up with a very pronounce dome almost ball shape with very little side wall contrary to this most tips Mike Wooldridge e.c.t. go for a less severe dome with a good side wall very confusing !

It's just personal choice. A friend of mine had his top re-done at the Blue Dolphin pool tournement a year or two back because he kept mis-cusing (may be wrong but I believe it was Stu Green from Greenbaize), he diagnosed an over-domed tip and put one on with a much flatter profile. Mate went on to win the 3 man so it must have worked for him!

I had lessons a couple of years back with an ex pro in Leeds and
i too kept on mis-cueing on screw shots. He picked up on my tip
which had a very severe dome to it just like the shot in the Parris
video. I beleived it would give me more reaction on the white ball
but when the pro flattened the tip out and reshaped it i still got
the same reaction on the white ball. I very rarely mis-cue now and
have much more confidence in my flatter tip shape. It really does
boil down to personnel taste on tip shape but a lot depends on how
good your technique is also. One more point i found that i put a lot
more unintentional side on the cue ball with the very domed tip but
when i had the tip flattened out and was less domed i struck the cue ball
                      with less throw.

Is a tapered ferrule out of the ordinary ? to be honest I had not even thought about it until your comment

I also thnk that a too round tip causes a lot of problems with the white sliding off it , even if its ever so slightly it still slides . A flattish tip gives a much cleaner crisp strike . The dome thats on a new tip is perfect and i keep that shape but just rough it up ever so slightly . If the tip is too high i like to slice a layer off the bottom rather than taking it off the top .

yes it's not common. sometimes over time they can end up that way.

because as people burnish or shape the tip they accidentally do a little to the ferrule.
