        Tapering means whatever it is your talking about (in this case ferrule) going from 10mm for example where it meets the cue to say 9.8 at the point where the tip is glued.

        I have been 'polishing' my ferrule with 240 grit so it will soon resemble a bloody mess.

          its the graduated increase in diameter of the cue from the tip towards the butt mainly the part where you bridge hand V is placed some people like a narrow taper over their bridge hand others a thicker barrel like taper some handmade cue makers give you an option as to what taper you require.

            if i want to polish my ferrule i use a little bit of scourer,thats the green bit on sponge for doing dishes, works a whole lot better, and does no damage
