I have found if i put a tiny smear of linseed oil on my Omin firm laminated tips it softens them nicely and takes away the "clicky" noise. If you put too much on it turns into a cabbage!
Anybody else tried anything like this cos i went through a few before finding what was suitable for me,and the price of some tips nowadays is pretty high.My mate brought me a box of 50 back from Thailand for £8 otherwise wouldnt have been able to experiment.

          Quite hard, but nice response.
Just like a very firm elk imho.

If your looking for a great pool tip for 9 ball try a tiger Everest medium that's with a z2 shaft they don't mushroom, or break apart,

they are quality tips, - Reply to someone asking about pool tips!

I would say Tiger make good tips better than moori, bit to hard for snooker( well for me)

Ultimately, it boils down to personal preference. Look at your own game and you should be able to determine which tip is going to work best for you.

The methodology for testing tip density is as follows:

Use a standard Shore A Durometer (0-100 hardness scale)
                1Kg (2.2 lbs) of pressure
Measure the density of three tips per brand
Take the average of the three measurements to determine a density rating
                Tip Brand Tip Size Density
                Elk Master 10-14mm 66.8
Kamui Black (Super Soft) 14mm 67.5

Agreed... I get the best feel and control with Everest tips when playing 9-ball pool. Not sure if they come in various hardness though.

I had one of those tip trimmer for years , they work great, the one I got was a £10, its good for harder laminated tips, if you use elks stanleys knife will do you fine

                    • The softest leather type laminated one is the medium, they do a soft but it looks like its a standard tip

yes better control than a moori med.

Alreet, well with a soft tip it cushions the impact of the shot keeping the cue ball and tip in contact longer which helps generate more spin, you'll also get less miscues with a soft tip, however you won't get a solid feel through the cue on impact and won't be able to generate as much power as with a harder tip. also soft tips mushroom more easily so you have to trim and reshape them more often so they will need to be replaced more regularly. hard tips give a solid feel, more power and to me more control as the hit will stay consistent and not change much throughout the life of the tip, you have to have a better cue action with a hard tip to avoid miscues as they're not as forgiving of bad cuing. totally depends how you play for what hardness will suit you best, try as many different tips as you can to find what suits you
