  • Thanks Barry ,Mikey and Sealer, I have tried pressing elks with differing results, I am thinking about a blue diamond plus, but are they softer than an elk, I like a hard tip but not laminated hard, what would folk rate ADRs tips like?

I'm not sure how long and I've never tried for obvious safety reasons. I think a tip press is probably the safest way.
      fair enough,,
yeah, tip press works very well.
or using BDP tips which is more consistent comperd to elk , imo.
      thx for replay.

From what you say you will like new MW black tips. It is slightly firmer than a firm elk. Keeps shape and give nice feedback both soft shots and firm. Lasts fairly well but not cheap.

            You are most welcome mate
Personally I hated laminates after trying Talisman..... however ---- ADR's tips have changed the game in that respect.
His soft and super soft for me are very good, nice grip, chalk stays on decent, doesn't mis-shape a lot and also sounds good when hitting the white.

Use the search function for ADR and I think you will find most approve of this cue tip.

That's what put me off trying one of ADRs tips ,I can't stand that noise you get from hard laminated tips. I had an Omin red once and while it is a great tip shape and control wise, it was like a marble on the end of my cue and the noise just wasn't for me, but a good tip none the less.

It is all a personal taste thing, I can't understand the obsession with soft tips just as I find the business of wanting mega stiff shafts odd!

medium - mikes tips are fairly hard.

Are you playing on a Star with a fastish cloth? If so, you just don't need a hard tip, like Judd, Ronnie, Robbo, Smurf don't; the game's top potters and break-builders. For you guys, the feel in the balls is very important for delicate stuns and run throughs and little screws, the cloth will do the rest. Ronnie had a go on Talisman, Higgins uses a lammy I think? But pros just don't get on with them, they're pretty horrid for break building. A good elk is all these pros need. Luckily, they've got tippers searching for the right elk.

I've got an image of Liam Neeson on the end of the phone saying "good luck " whenever someone calls looking for a good Elk
