I believe Mike's version of the modified tip trimmer should take awhile since now he has too many orders on hand.

Luckily I had an oversize pencil sharpener to use and it did a great job. At first I couldn't get it to work, then realised I had to apply some pressure on the blade to cut into the tip before it worked. It's the first time I've changed my tip. Does this tool do the same thing or more? As it seems expensive when you can get one of the pencil sharpeners at a much cheaper price?

The pencil sharpener will not do the same thing .

Can you explain what it wouldn't do? Also I'll be happy to put my name down for one of mike's tip trimmer if it's not too much.

I would expect the pricing to be more or less near the size of Joe Porer's tip trimmer.

The pencil sharpener will not shape the tip to a mushroom, i.e. top flared out, shape that was being discussed.
              See the Mushroom tip thread.
From my reading I am hoping that Mike's tip shaper will allow the user to set the tip shape desired; whether it be mushroom (and how much of a mushroom) to perfectly inline with the ferrule; and then trim the tip in easy thin strips (to cater for those really hard laminates) automatically adjusting inwards for the next pass so to speak, and that it will also have a "stop" that will not allow the blade to scratch the ferrule/shaft. Not much to ask for really
I would also be interested in just a machine, depending on price of course

the adjustment screw you are talking about is not to adjust any angle, it is purely to adjust to the height of the tip so that the ferrule is in no danger of being cut.

the hole is for 14mm tips. it's an american pool cue tool. it is meant to fit quite close and remove the mushrooming/overhang of a tip so that it the tip is flush(ish) with the ferrule.

it is not really designed to be tilted and used as you are using it, although i can see it could work well doing it like that. but i can also see how someone may mark or damage their ferrule or wood by rubbing the metal edge on their cue to 'make it' cut a 10mm tip.

the angles you are achieving are simply cos the hole is 'sloppy' so you are able to lean either to the top or bottom, but, as i said, from what you are doing it can be utilised to your advantage. but you gotta be careful eh...

i've decided to make a modified version to fit snooker/pool cues. it'll be even better...

also, the little tip trimmer needs modifying to suit our tip sizes. i'll do one of them too.

                pre-orders welcome, who wants one?
Any news on the tip trimmer mike? Could a simple insert not be made bringing the grazer down to 10mm?
No one is listening until you make a mistake!

Since getting my Grazer I have been thinking the same thought but it would need to be crescent shaped to allow the tip to meet the blade., so several pieces one for 10.5mm, 9.5 and 8.5mm which then should cope with most varients of English snooker and pool ferrule sizes

I got one with extra blades and received one that was no good for snooker tips, only large pool tips.

I thought there was only one size?
Yes the one I have is, as you say, it is sized for large American tips but it does work well with English tip sizes, even to my 8.2mm pool tip.
Have to admit, to get it working well there is a technique and pressure to get just right

I've got 1 in the draw and what a complete waste of money. You are better of doing it with a Stanley blade and being careful. The hole is too big for English cue tips, it just scratches your ferrule. There is no instructions, no way of making the hole smaller and you are basically having to balance the cue tip and apply the right pressure which you can do with a Stanley blade anyway. IMO DO NOT BUY ONE
                          77 in a match, 97 in a line up

You are correct there Rob do have to be very careful because there made for American pool tips, I taped my ferrule up when I first tried it just make sure I didn't scratch my ferrule up until I got the hang of using it......

I reckon this tool only really comes into its own when your trying to put a mushroom on your tip.
