Philip:
Unless you have 10 sets of balls to clean just use your hands and a slightly wet cloth with a slightly soapy solution (very small amount of dishwashing liquid) and then a dry and nice soft cloth. The one thing this does is take off any oils that have been deposited on the balls but it doesn't ruin the finish. As it's handled the most the cueball does get a lot of human oil from the sweaty hands of the players.
