    your own arms and hands
I personally would not trust any machine, they all seem too harsh.
    And definitely not a dishwasher!

I can second that. I tried it once.

        Philip:

Unless you have 10 sets of balls to clean just use your hands and a slightly wet cloth with a slightly soapy solution (very small amount of dishwashing liquid) and then a dry and nice soft cloth. The one thing this does is take off any oils that have been deposited on the balls but it doesn't ruin the finish. As it's handled the most the cueball does get a lot of human oil from the sweaty hands of the players.

We use the ballstar machine witch is very good, always clean balls in no time.

I made one, but the balls still need a quick wipe to get the sheen of the polish off. I've also noticed this with the commercial Ballstar machine, unless the operator was a bit keen with the cleaning solution.
