  • Best glue for re-tipping

Can anyone tell me what glue/cement they have been using when re-tipping their cue? Any advice would be much appreciated

  • #2
I use Superglue gel - works a treat.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
    I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Loctite ultra control or powerflex superglue gel. Both excellent for tips, they're rubber infused and shock resistant

Used to use run of the mill poundworld super glue but tips used to come off frequently .
After reading a couple of threads on here i chose loctite super glue gel and not a single tip has come off during play, not cheap i think it cost me about a fiver from Homebase or B&Q for a small 3-5gram tube but its the mutz nutz.

The Loctite powerlex gives a few seconds to reposition the tip anyway and is shock resistant making it ideal for cue tips, if you need a bit more time though id suggest the Loctite power easy superglue gel, still very strong but gives upto 30-40 seconds to reposition

I've been using epoxy cement for wood/leather/metal and I've never had a tip come loose however the pain is it takes around 30mins to cure. Next time I'm in Home Depot I'll see if I can find the Loctite Porwerlex Gel or Powereasy Gel and see if it works.

Years ago I used superglue gel but I found the squeeze bottle used to harden after a month or so and I had to buy a new one, which was inconvenient and also found it would crystalize and the tip would come loose on one side where it got the most use.

                      Thanks for the tips guys.

I just use super glue, the bottle one with the brush. Its good to just paint coat a little amount to prevent over spillage on the ferrule when you apply pressure on the new tip.
