U should do what someone else said, dig your nail in very hard and if it doesnt make a mark or only lightly scores it then it should be a good tip, if i can dig my nail in at all i tend to leave these tips for club cues, i tend to look for tips that have a nice shiny side and no visible cracks or pimples on the surface, these tend to be better and . Always use a sharp blade to do tips also

Philip maybe you should get a tip press, my mate has recently bought one and all his Elks are coming out spot on......

I just put mine between two bits of clean steel and whack them in a vice for a few days, your gonna shape them anyway so the fact they go a bit flat is not a problem for me.

I leave mine in the vice overnight, seems to work just fine

did you pick out some of the good elk and put in the vice or using the same method on the odd one and turn out to be ok ? Thanks

I do it to all of them, saves me messing around with knocking them in, i only know if they are any good when i put them on and play, i have had two duff ones in the past 18 months, one split apart at the base, might have been my fault, the other one just did not feel right.

as do many but i promise there are more fake boxes of elks out there than parris cues it is just harder for people to spot.
