I have a problem with my table iron. It won't heat up any more and the light stays off. Checked the fuse in the plug but seems OK. Any advice? It's an original dowsing, latest model.

Could be the heating element inside. They often go and need replacing. Not an easy job to replace, nor cheap to get a replacement element. With the light not coming on though I'm not certain that is the problem as usually the light comes on even if the element is blown. Maybe the thermostat is faulty?

Gee i was just looking purchasing a table iron until i saw the price of them here in Australia at over $500.
I am thinking of buying a brand new house hold iron and turning the steam off and using the Wool setting for my Strachan cloth and has anyone else done this??
I am not really keen on spending that amount of money on an Iron.If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???

Shall we say that a domestic iron will get better results than no iron at all
There is a thread about the temperature settings with the domestic iron but I don't think there was a consensus of what was best.
The snooker irons are more than double the weight of a domestic iron so have that a great difference in the method of use and results achieved.
good luckUp the TSF! :snooker:

A google search of using a household Iron for snooker table cloth is interesting and with varied results. Some swear by the household Iron switched to Wool setting and NO steam while others only want to know about the Dowsing etc etc.
I suppose as long as the Iron is not to hot and tested on a piece of paper before hand for scorching and no steam/water etc is applied no harm could be done to the cloth and this is my main worry. While the results may not be as good as using a heavier Dowsing the money they are asking for them is outrageous IMO.
A lighter regular household iron would be better for laying the Nap back down nicely after a brush than no ironing at all surely and my Burgundy Strachan cloth is a nightmare to get the Nap back down flat after a few hours of play even when i brush it for 10 minutes at least. If it is called " Common sense " why is it so rare???
