For such a high price for an 'improved' product as already stated before, i think cueman has hit the nail on the head, I will wait to hear the reviews first, if they do as stated, great it should push down the price of the original elks, in my last box off ADR I can honestly say every tip I put on for myself and a couple of others i didn't find a bad one!!

Soft tips like the normal Elks but supposedly a lot more consistent.....
They're harder than standard elks but how much harder I have no idea

Besides Ronnie using these tips I have had a number of these tips for over a year now (although mine are impregnated with green chalk). I found them to be nearly identical to a firm blue Elk Master but they did give a good hit and stood up well. I also gave some of them away to other players and they liked them too.

The only thing I have against them is the price at 3 quid per or 95 quid for 50. I think that is a little high for what the product is. This price makes me wonder what the Coutts mark-up is on these tips and does it reflect the fact that Ronnie uses them and does he REALLY use these new tips or is he using the regular Elk Master as I've read somewhere that he has a friend gather broken-in Elk Master tips or in other words harder Elk Master which I think are a fairly decent tip anyway, especially for the price.

I also agree with the comment from cueman. The blue Elk Masters have been around for years so why has it taken so long to produce this 'new and improved version'? As I said it was over a year since I got my samples (and I was told by Tweeten not to talk about them by the way). What's the big deal? With no proof whatsoever and no blame towards Coutts I think we may be seeing a plan to sell these tips at a very high margin and that's from Tweetens itself.

I read Coutt's FB post, wanna give it a try but the international postage stop me....

            1pc at £3
            5pc at £13

But the international postage cost £10... £15 for a box of 50.

I checked on MW's web page on the postage for a mini + a long tele, the postage is £16.
Hmmm ~~~~ maybe a box of 50 has the similar weight to the MW Mini + long tele !?!?!?

I paid £20 for the long tele from JO.
Don't think I wanna pay for the high postage for a little thing !!

If there 95 for a box of 50 why is a single tip £3 and not 1.90 I dont mind paying the 3 if there a good
tip as I use wooldridge supertips and there about the same price but them in my opinion are the best you
can get. Going to try a few see how they go.

the reason for the international postage for a box of 50 being £10 is that i send these signed for and tracked as this is the only way the post office will insure them for over £16 and as the box is worth £95 i need them insuring!!!! on request from purchasers i can do this at a lower cost, but if the tips go missing then we will not be held responsible for this

Because they get cheaper the more you buy. Standard practice in the business world. You'll notice the same when you buy chalk. Buy a box of 144 blocks and it's a lot cheaper than buying one at a time.
Don't think I'll bother with these new elks. I'm happy with my woollies.

I suppose that would make sense then cause the better playing Elks are the firmer ones..... Hence these tips will be more consistent.

As I said in an earlier thread my mate has starting compressing the original Elks and every one has played really well so far.

Special Elk = £3 for tip + £3 for postage
Standard Elk = £0.99 for tip + £1.65 for postage.
Postage on 2 ferrules is £0.60
Inconsistent postage, and £3 to post 1 tip

Its not the fact people are crying over 3 quid, it people trying to ascertain as to whether this is a "clever marketing ploy" or whether they are indeed better.

For me if the only difference is harder and no chalk then i'l pass as i get the same kind of results with a tip pressed elk....and a damn site cheaper

when I heard about them I was intrigued, as I have always like Elks but not particularly the impregnated chalk, so I am going to give them a try - wish me luck - I'm going in...
                            Up the TSF! :snooker:

Yep, not only that but Elks used to be, back in the day, a consistent well made tip. Then for whatever reason the standard in manufacturing these tips went down and as we all know from a box of 50 you may find around a 1/3 or more are useless and fall apart or are too soft etc.

Now suddenly they have managed to make elks like they used to be but have decided to dress them down by taking the chalk off and make out its a new manufacturing process and charging a premium for it! Us poms may be whingers but for good reason, we aren't fools and don't like having the wool pulled over our eyes. Too many people accept poor standards these days and don't make enough complaints to these manufacturers when they deliberately made the quality of these tips poor in the first place.

Well said Cueman. I hate getting conned. Just saying that Ronnie uses these tips will induce a lot of people to buy them. What we really need to know is what is different about them to warrant them being so much more expensive.
