Wanted: New Genuine Aramith spotted white

Can someone tell me why they use the spotted white when they are the same size and weight as a plain white therefore no advantage.

I think they started the spots for training purposes and now for TV

Seems a strange thing to say ?? are you saying a different size/weight ball would be an advantage ??
Surely that would just mess up your game !

No I am not saying a different size/ weight ball would be a advantage. Just cannot understand why in pool we are forced to play with a spotted white. I asked the question where I live and was told it was because the spotted was slightly heavier which is not the case as I have 1 of each.

they should be the same weight, unless of course the new spotty are Aramith phenolic and the other is a BCE composite set? But I thought the old compos were heavier than the phenolic?

They are not always the same weight , in fact Pro Cups are sometimes lighter than plain cue balls. I have mentioned this before in previous posts , but if you wish to read the article go to www.stevedaking.com . He weighed several cue balls , plain and spotted and found a large variation in weight between the plain balls and that the spotted whites were certainly more consistent , weight wise. As to why they are used , it started around 2006 and was because the game had certain sponsors that wanted to show the cue ball action on tv. Obviously you can not see spin , top , screw , side etc with a plain ball , except by watching the cue balls path before or after contact with the object ball, but you can with a spotted white in " slo mo " or high speed film work. This post is not definitive but I hope it helps .

There the same size but couldnt be same weight.ive never weighed them but the spotted white for 8 ball reacts as if heavier
