    Hi Vmax
I undersatnd the point "it is only the dye" that is different between the colours of the Triangle. Master chalk does have a different component formula but possibly (not entirely sure but very feasible) uses the same colourant as the Triangle.
But I must add, that one of my first jobs was in an artists paint factory and I used to make the pastels and moists, and the difference in components to make a colourant can be great.
All I know from my observations is that Triangle Blue is very dusty and does not hold well on the tip and marks the cue ball and requires lots of chalking the tip (standard pressed Elk is my basis and recently on a Special Elk), Green is better (less dusty and stays on the tip better but can mark the cue somewhat, rechalking required often), and Spruce had hardly any dust, covers the tip very well, stays on the tip so less chalking, hardly marks the cue.
Last night I tried some Master chalk from Stevie, I think it is Green and not Spruce (not sure) and it went on the tip ok, but needed extra chalking to maintain coverage, a little dusty and not much transfer.
After a couple of frames I did go back to my Triangle spruce chalk, as the "feel/hit" of the Master Green was not quite "there" if you know what I mean, it felt harder, ding-y tha the Triangle. Only my obs

Remember all the above is on a pressed Elk or Pressed Special Elk, I have not tried other tips, so results may (will) differ.
And yes I would very much like to try a lump of the National Spruce, thanks
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

You have to ask yourself why all these pros have suddenly switched to Master chalk after using Triangle for years. I wouldn't think they are on a retainer from Tweetens as they make both kinds. I wouldn't think that it's to stop miscueing so often as pros very rarely do anyway. It can't be for better grip for deep screw shots as Selby does very well with Triangle.

Maybe it's the kicks question again. Maybe they believe that Master chalk doesn't transfer to the cue ball as much being softer and therefore only requiring a light wipe across the tip. Then again Ronnie was really digging chalk into his new Ronnie's Magic Elkmaster tips the past two weeks and got as many kicks as anyone else.

I use green Master chalk, have done since forever, but seeing as my regular playing partner uses green Triangle we both get the requisite amount of kicks per frame. Whose chalk is to blame ? neither when using super crystalate balls as there are so few kicks anyway, or maybe it's him, but when using phenolic resin TC's there are about two or three big kicks per frame and a bad contact every five shots or so.
I asked Stu Bingham and Martin Gould on fb why they changed to master chalk and they both said they find it sticks to the tip better, no other reason than that

I find that you get more chalk residue from Master Chalk , if that makes sense .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

My Master Spruce came in last night. Only played a few shots but really sticks nice to my new ADR147 S Tip.

I could not help wondering why Ronnie had changed to Master Chalk then low and behold I got two cubes free with a new case I ordered ! it appears (very slightly) heavier and thicker than Triangle and certainly sticks to and covers the tip well to be frank after using it for a couple of weeks now I like it ! the died in the wool Triangle users may beg to differ but I find it a a very confidence building chalk (Hope that does not sound stupid) in other words your cue stays chalked.
