For me, the tip on a new cue is merely cosmetic because as you say, folk generally take the tip off and put on what they prefer.

I've always been surprised that no one ever asks if a new cue can come with a preferred tip on it to save time for the individual.

most of the time people will tell me what tip they want on it or say could you also send such and such a tip.

I would be happy to do that and have done on whole but most have asked for elk, which I have, so not a problem lol

I agree, I guess Elks are the standard tip for a cue if there aren't any clues from the client and they don't know either.

Most players I know use elk or blue diamond but a few are starting to try others...

Don't know how they compare, but a hard Grand tip is like a rock glued to the end of your cue. Medium Grand is the forward.
