  • Aramith 1G problem

    Hi.
I have a 1 month old set of Aramith 1G snooker balls and a week ago i found cracks in 1 red, black and green. Also very small cracks in blue and pink but you can just about notice them.
Surprisingly no cracks on the cue ball. I've checked the pockets on the table and there is no sharp edges anywhere, we have a thick wall-to wall carpet where we play and i just can't believe how a new set of balls can crack like this?
Already sent an e-mail to Saluc but no response yet.
The cracks are white in every ball, i'll try to upload photos..

Have to ask the question.........are they real ?

Did you buy them off a reputable dealer ? As i am sure i recall that there were fakes flooding the marketplace .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Only one place here in Finland that sells 1G:s and im pretty sure that the guy who runs it is ok, but can't be 100% sure.
Can't seem to upload a pic of the case but it is exactly the same as in every picture i've seen,
and there was the little Aramith flyer in the case as well.

        Aramith 1G problem

I think Terry Davidson had exactly the same problem with his white ball and Saluc sent him a replacement.

That is correct. My cueball developed semi-circle cracks, about 12 of them and they were just barely visible. I circled them with marker and took photos and emailed those to Saluc and they sent me a new cueball which I've been using for over a year now with no problems. Be sure to weigh the balls before you send them back and ask for the replacement to weigh the same. With 1G balls it should be 141gms +/- 1gm

They will want you to send the cracked balls back for quality control issues.

Good god, my typing is awful!

Just one thing to check. Your cracks are different from mine and it looks like they could be cause by the ferrule hitting the balls. It seems unlikely to me but I insist everyone who uses my table to only use the cueball but I've seen players (hate to say it but mostly Oriental) who will use any ball as the cueball and strike them hard.

Check and make sure nobody who uses these balls is using other balls as the cueballs or someone who have a very worn tip and is also doing that.

ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! You need to check the pocket leathers to see if they have split! This would explain why the cueball is relatively clear of cracks as this ball sends the object ball to the damaged pockets!!!

Well, no response in a week. And yes i've checked the pockets and everything, no sharp edges, nothing..
Every cue that we play with has a good tip in it.
Do i contact the seller next or what?

Oh Oh! I can't figure out why players buy the 1G balls anyway unless it's for the snazzy (and cheap and nasty) briefcase to hump them around in. The Pro Cup Tournament Champion balls are a lot less expensive and the balls are from the exact same assembly line as the 1G and the only difference between the 2 sets is the weight tolerance. So when they make a batch those that are 141gm +/- 1gm go into the 1G pile and those that are 141gm +/- 3gm go in the pro cup pile.

Yes TC's all the as 1G balls really are not worth the extra.

Terry, are you saying that the G1's will weigh between 140.5 and 141.5 grams since there's only a 1 gram tolerance and The TC's 139.5 and 142.5 grams being a 3 gram tolerance?

Might be a dumb question but I find it abit confusing. Could the G1's be 140.0 to 141.0 or 141.0 to 142.0

Could the TC's be 138.0 to 141.0 or 139.0 to 142.0, etc., etc.?
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

My TC cue ball is 144 grams. Emailed Aramith and they told me that's its within their specs of 3g.
