you lot must be putting them on wrong or buying something else, normal elks are not inconsistent and play fine, which is why most players including Ronnie use them

loads of people try something new but it does nothing extra on the table compared to elks, it may make people feel better though

a box of 50 should last you a lifetime for the same money you spend on fads

so every Elk you've ever put on your cue, has been exactly the same and played perfect straight out of the box?
As for doing nothing extra, I'd agree that nothing compares to a perfect Elk, the problem is there is no simple way of telling until you've bedded it in whether you've picked a good un!
A lot of the tips you refer to as fads, play consistently with little or no bedding in necessary, and give players a lot more confidence in there shot selection. I currently use ADR tips, which plays amazingly from the first hit and grip the ball far better than Elks, but at times I find the extra grippiness hard to control and my shot selection goes out of the window showing off, so will switch tips for a while to help other aspects of my game and get back to basics.

Have you tried any of the modern tips?
No one is listening until you make a mistake!

well, this one is new to me !!! normally, in a box of 50,, you're lucky if you can find 10/15 good elks!! Not saying I don't believe you,,, but I'm curious where you buy them from. any chance for a link or website ??

Gotta agree with these comments. I have 2 boxes of Elk Master original tips here and at a guess I find about 30% of them are what I call 'spongy' in that they actually shred when I go to shape them with a file and even if I beat them down with a hammer in an attempt to bed them in they still have all those 'irish pendants' hanging off them and it feels like I'm hitting the cueball with a sponge on my cue.

I was also provided by Tweeten with a few of the experimental 'snooker only' tips with the green chalk and I did find (so far) about 2 out of 20 of those which were spongy. I don't think these are the final product that Dave Coutts is selling as they seem to me to be regular Elk Master tips but with green rather than blue chalk.

I also agree with Ramon to a certain extent as i would say normally 15-25 Tips are ok if your lucky, and i have fitted more Tips than most in the last 10yrs-15yrs as all the Cues I Buy & Sell i Re-Tip every cue ASAP and most friends and snooker/pool players near me and further afield bring or send there Cues to me to get Tips and Cues sorted and Don't forget my own ones .......lol

                      Gaz.

ronnie won a couple with a talisman hard and i am pretty sure higgins was using a kamui the last time he won.

ronnie changes tips like others change socks, i don't think he would struggle with any tip to be honest!

We know Ronnie uses elks and I think (Vmax can correct me!) that Davis used blue diamonds in the 80s. Judd uses elks on a Parris to great effect. I'm interested in knowing if a laminated tip has ever been used to win a world title? I use Kamui, the best laminate of all.
As mentioned both Ronnie and Higgins have won world titles with Talisman and Kamui, Selby also won his title with a Kamui. However laminated tips haven't been used for that long so comparing his many titles have been won with them compared to elk abduction bd isn't really fair as for so many years they were the only option
