I was talking about layered tips in general, not you specifically, but if you make yours yourself, by your own hand, from start to finish, that would be rare indeed.

Why source sheets of pigskin, sort them into consistent layers, glue them, bung them into expensive presses, COR rate and stamp them, when you can order exactly what you specify with two minutes on alibaba and a few clicks of the mouse, all for 40c a pop.

i don't make laminated tips.

i also care about what i make and, eventually, i'll have everything exactly as i want it.

agreed about alibaba, very easy to buy in laminated tips and have them branded any way you want.

I never tried the original Supertips, but seem to have been through just about every incarnation of the green ones. Not sure how many different formulas Mike has actually put out there, but they have varied wildly. Most have played great initially but then become too hard to use after half a dozen sessions and have had to be removed. One batch of four I had were like sponge cake after one session and therefore useless. I have just bought four of the 2016 'blue' version, and this is the last chance I will be giving them. Overall, I guess I am about £60 down with not a lot to show for it, so if these don't play as they should, I'm done. I appreciate Mike is trying hard to get the product right, but the R&D should not be done on the open market to this extent. Too expensive and unfair on loyal consumers. I use Blackspin on my Legend and it plays beautifully, but not sure how much of this is also down to the ferrule system and since it's still the original tip, can't comment on consistency. Dreading having to change it in case the next one isn't as good.

working with leather is not a science, bit like wood actually, but i am trying to make it that way.

unfortunately, i cannot see every problem before it occurs so i encourage people to keep me informed of what happens so i can find solutions.

fyi, i've just discovered another anomaly in my tooling which has led to some false readings. yet another spanner in the works which will result in some soft or hard tips slipping through over the last 3-4 months.

you don't need to buy any more, just keep in touch via email and i'll happily send replacements based on what problems you may be encountering.

What's your feedback been like on the new tips, any chance of returning to the old formula we knew and loved?

up and down, but one thing i wish people would realise is that there were batches of original ones that ended up way too soft and batches that ended up way too hard.

my point being, i didn't change for the fun of it and i needed to make them 'better'.

so although i am well aware there have been issues with the new ones, i will get it right sooner rather than later

what annoyed me the most was the reply mike sent me, was really full of himself even though a lot of people had made same comments he came across as really arrogant and been making cues etc for years and new it all, despite a lot of people all expressing same concerns, the original supertips were the best tips I have used in the 34 years I have been playing snooker and got a few months out of a tip with no problem , there was an issue with a newer batch of the blue supertips but on the whole were a brilliant all round tip, the newer ones are too hard and have less playability and response but for some reason he wont go back to the original, surely from a business point of view must be worth making both, other tip makers have different variety's, but impression I get is wont admit he got it wrong which is a shame, I was lucky enough to buy 3 of the older type of a guy on ebay a couple of months ago and back playing fantastic snooker. but as mike said in his email to me he knows what players want so what do I know, check out you tube colin Harrison snooker practice see an original supertip in action

I'm really sorry for being a div here but I have lost track of what's what. Could someone tell me which super tips are the firm ones, I like a hard pressed tip so might give these a go, thanks.

lol, you're not a div, you should try working here, i feel like i'm going mad drowning in a sea of tips...

we've made so many different batches based on the latest comments that it's swung from hard to soft and back again about a hundred times.

firm is what they should be, not soft and not too hard.

When they used to be 5 on a card I don't think I ever had a bad one, but the last couple I had off ADR one went rock hard within a fortnight and the other turned to sponge before it even got near the cue! Why did you feel the need to change the originals, I thought they were widely accepted as the best pressed tip around?

Thanks Crazy and Markz, looks like there might be an issue with consistency with the new tips , saying that like cues I bet it's impossible to get them exactly the same, I'm in two minds whether to just get a few buffalo bd+ And press them.

This is what I do. I like them (I'm an old Blue diamond fan).

Tell you what Mike, there must be some mark up on tips to go through all this hassle lol. I have to say though ,I remember you offering replacements when some batches of the originals went spongy and I see you still are, top class customer service.

as i said, there were consistency issues so i had to address the problem which meant a rethink on everything.

but, ultimately, it's the same leather and only a matter of time before i have ironed out the consistency issues i am having at the moment.

BDP are the best tip for those who love great elks. Slightly firmer than an average elk but a good one is firm anyway, so straight out the box, it's exactly like a good elk.

Tweetens manage to make every tip in every box useable; flippin brilliant

BD is one tip I've not bothered with since I started again. Probably tried most the others as I wanted to have an open mind about tip playability. Only my opinion but I've managed to play ok with most unless they were just too soft.
