what tools are you guys use to polish your tips?

sometimes we need polish the tips for holding chalk when we are playing.
i ofen use sand paper but it will damage the ferrel,so what tools are you guys use?

Sand paper is fine to scuff tip, just be more careful, you shouldn't be anywhere near ferrule to scratch it.

thank you mate.i just wonder if i can find something can be quick and easy to use and without any scratching the ferrule at the same time.

the beer mat cards are similar to the cardboard used for, say, breakfast cereal boxes. This is very good for getting rid of those little odd tuffs you can get every now and then, without changing the shape of the cue or scratching the ferrule, etc
Also the cardboard is good for burnishing the tip sides if you like that

If you don't want to use sandpaper buy an emery board or a small file.

I use a Kamui tip so bought the Kamui gator tool. This will help if you have a laminated tip. You could also get the bow tie tool, this has two ends, one for shaping and one for scuffing plus if you unscrew it there is a tip pick tool.

With sand paper just hold the cue by the brass ferrule with finger and thumb, you will never scratch the ferrule then. Your thumb and finger will protect it.

I'm lost here billabong lol, does he mean burnish sides or scuff? He says polish the tip to hold chalk. Burnishing has nowt to do with holding chalk. I got one of the adr burnishers though and they work well.

I'm not sure.

I assumed when he said polish, then the 2nd post mentioned beer mat use, that he was burnishing the sides of the tip.

I tried the beer mat method in the past.

I have used a beer mat in the past to deal with a tip that was not taking chalk. without changing the tip shape, when nothing else is around. the other comments were other uses of beer mat/ cereal box cardboard

What are you trying to do crazybeans? Scuff the tip to take chalk better or burnish the sides to make them firmer?
