I use Talisman soft with super glue (not gel) and never had trouble.

I fitted an Omin tip the other day (laminated) and the guy said it came off in his second session (I explained I'd never had a tip come off).

When I got to the club it seems the whole world knew that I had fitted a tip that had come virtually straight off. When I looked at it the lower part of the tip was still on the ferrule, there wasn't any glue showing on the remaining laminate at the top so it hadn't soaked that far.

My only conclusion was that the tip might have been a fake as he paid £2 each or just a duff tip; no problems with the glue though.

Yeah looked at that but it said it still takes 24 hours to cure fully. Seems like a nice round figure so maybe it cures a lot quicker than that.

I use that, only 4 quid from Wilkinson's. Never had a tip come off.

I might try it to see what it does. Interested I the araldite as well and if that soaks that far into a porous tip.

More important than anything: How fresh the glue is.

Burnish the bottom of the tip before putting glue on it.

Did that Andy been fitting tips myself for over 30 yrs never had a problem except with laminated tips forgot to mention thou only had the problem with the black laminated tips. Found all the glue had soaked into the tip none was left on the wood.

I've been looking to find a video which shows what a beating a tip takes and how striking the cue ball in one corner makes the other side nearly come off, the one at Kamui does a good job to show this.

Look at the bottom video on this page, superb in slow motion! Click Here

Nice little clip that, never realised that a tip could move so much !!!
I was shocked also when watched slo mo footage of how much Ronnie's cue bent and wobbled when he rapped it on the table once.

It shows how important the glue is. I thought the tip would have come off with that sort of bend. It certainly shows how a laminate tip could come apart if not sound.

For sure yes, I wonder how soft the tip was and also how hard the ball was hit.

Yeah it's a good point. A soft tip should give a bit more as built to be flexible. I guess that's why the hard tip would come apart as more brittle.

Not sure whether this would prevent that happening, but I always put a thin smear of glue (gel) on to a sanded tip wait for that to go off, then sand and fit the tip as normal, works for me.

I dont know if I'll get shot for saying this but I also very lightly score the underside of the tip before applying the glue.
