It's not for cutting the tip down to the ferrule though, it just polishes the sidewalls of the tip to stregnthen them.

Yeah I understand what it does just trying to understand how a tapered shape (cone) leave a cylinder shape afterwards........interesting.

it's not a steep taper mate, might leave the tip a little smaller at the top if it's a softy, but it'll squeeze back out after a few good whacks
