  • Red and Black Phoenix tips

Anyone know the difference 'cept the obvious lol

  • #2
Yeah . ... The red are slightly softer

I've used the black medium Phoenix for a year or so and recently put on a red Phoenix to give it a try .

TBH I really like the red and will stick with it . Like I say it's almost the exact same but VERY slightly softer .

    I LOVE EM

I've used the black mediums for around 3 years now..can't fault them so won't be changing any time soon..I reckon if the reds are a tad softer they will appeal to a lot of players as the black are always referred to as being too hard

Do you think it's harder or softer than a Talisman soft?

It's difficult to measure tips as I guess it does come down to personal opinion; I did see a compression chart once for tips, I ought to find it and have another read!

Not sure what else was on it e.g. hardness.

Definitely a little harder than a Tally soft..but I found the talismans fell apart or sounded like they weren't glued properly..and yes Ramon I also find them better than the Kamuis

                  agreed.
Most snooker players would rather have press tip, though.
would be fair to say , they're softer ( in generaal ).

Yeah I like the softer part but when I used a pressed tip, in general, I was always fiddling with it and continually doing stuff to keep it where I wanted it, maybe it was just me!

After playing with a mates cue who uses elks..I couldn't believe the inconsistency of a softer tip..it's a lottery as to if your going to get any action on the cue ball from one shot to the next

                          Not just you.

that's the trouble you get with pressed tips. They require abit more maintenance.

That seems to be the re-occurring theme when discussing soft pressed tips. I don't feel there's the same inconsistency when they are pressed but then that's where you start to lose feel.
