Best non-metallic ferrule material

Hi guys,

What in your experience is the best not metallic ferrule material. I only play pool as you know, so strength should not be a major issue, but I have had a couple of micarta ferrules split, even though I use a break cue. Any one got any ideas?

Not sure who are making these - or even if they are commercially available.

Yes I've used it, but very pricey way to get a new ferrule.

At 12mm external, I would think they are more suited to 9 or Chinese 8 ball but I will check, thanks for the suggestion.

You can get carbon rod from eBay and got some for an American pool cue a friend wanted.
Seemed to play really well, that was 11mm
But can get 9,8 and 7mm

Thanks for the reply Colin, butI've done that before and if you've not got the right equipment (like me) its not easy to cut square or neatly. If you don't get it quite right it frays, I tried it on some model tubing, but not a great result.

Tony Glover has some solid black fibre rod that he turns on a lathe to the correct diameter then drills to fit your original tenon . The finished ferrule looks just like the old black fibre ferrules of yesteryear . I had one fitted to an old Barracuda Professional for a team mate , so I know it can be done .

I just cut off a small butt and put it in my cordless drill, don't tighten it too much and use a new junior hacksaw.
Don't try to to quick and worked fine for me
