Old Metal case

[Hello, Mr Big Shot]

I've taken to storing my cue in an old metal case, which must be 50 years old, and looks more like a drainpipe than a cue case. It's like the one in the eBay link.

Is there any threat to the cue using such a case? There must be a reason they died out of fashion? Or are they perfectly fine to use?

I have never liked these old tubes as the sound of the cue going in and out gives me the heebie-jeebies; and if anything got in there you could do damage without knowing it
a flat case where you lay the cue in and can see the whole length is my preference.

But then these metal tubes have been around since 1900s and I am sure never heard of damaged a cue

I know of one person (in the pool league) who still has an old battered metal tube for her old Joe Davis cue metal tube

Yeah, i know what you mean about the noise, and it doesn't sit comfortably using it, but needs must.

So you have just the cue in the tube as I've seen a few guys have the cue in a felt sock for the cue to go in first.
So less chance of there being any damage.

These cases are usually cork lined at tip and butt end to prevent any damage or scratches to cue or tip from the edges of the metal.

You could always put one of those full length plastic sleeves that come sometimes with a cue inside the case.

A lot of those metal cases used to hang up on the walls of private members snooker clubs with a padlock on the end, so you could leave your own cue there.

I have a couple that I use to keep once piece cues but I agree, the sound is horrible when the cue rattles around inside.

That's why i use it. I should invest in a new lockable case.

Old Metal case

yep, down my club there are about 20 old metals tubes hanging along the walls. and about the same of modern plastic ones
I have never left any of my cues anywhere, so never thought about locks
