    Sounds interesting!

How big are the tip in new form 12mm or larger?

If they are as hard as you say in the hard version, then how the hell do they grip the ball?

I'm getting headache! I think I need sick leave! Then I can go play snooker

Questions over questions its hard work for I'm sorry!

laminated tips are hard by nature. much harder than pressed. in my opinion, medium talisman is far too hard for snooker or english pool.

laminated tips were not designed for snooker. talisman and all the others were developed to deal with the bigger, heavier balls of american pool.

the only laminated that comes close to being right is the talisman soft. which is what my laminated tip is based on, but a tiny bit softer, and made to the correct size - 10mm.

      • Laminated Tips

        Hi Mike,

I'll try this Talisman tip first just to build an opinion! Then I'll make up my mind if I'm going to try others!

I have to say: Your tips that I have seen in your shop, sound very appealling, but there a bit on the expensive side.

But like I said I'll try the talisman from ADR147 first and I will see what I make of that.

I just can't get it around my head that these things cost as much as they do

        I'll be back

        • well think about it like this i just nipped out to try mikes new laminated tips that he sent me - they are very good by the way mike will talk later - it cost me about £7 in fuel to run the 5 miles or so each way to the club plus maybe £3 in other car related costs ie tyres depreciation etc then i bought a can of diet coke £1 and a cheese roll £1.20 then i played for an hour on the table which should cost £5 and then i stuck a silly £17 in the bandit on the way out the door!!

£5 for a tip is nothing. think about tips like you do car tyres, its money well spent, its the link between the cue and the ball in the same way a good tyre is the link between the car and the road.

The Talismans are on the expensive side as well, aren't they? At the end of the day, it's what works best for you as an individual, be it an Elk, a Talisman, a BD... etc, or even a piece of marble stuck at the end of your trustworthy cue.

                • i am sorry but if you live in the uk £5 for a tip is not expensive if you live in the sudan ok it might be a bit steep - what does an hour of snooker cost where you live, how much is a pint of beer? lets get things in focus here boys i play snooker with cues that cost hundreds of pounds each and i don't think £5 for a tip is unreasonable at all - if they were £10 each they would still be cheap if you like them and they last for ages.

                  • I can't get my head around the fact that people will spend anything up to £600 on a cue then complain about £5 for a tip. think about it would you buy an Aston Martin then put budget tyres on it?
I started experimenting with the laminated tips about 4 years ago and i, like Andrew would doubt i would ever go back to pressed tips i.e. Elks BD.
I then introduced these tips to John Higgins as i used to coach him, and this is all John uses now. He then introduced them to Ronnie. both use hard as i do myself, but they are not everyone's cup of tea and a bit of experimenting is required to find what is right for you. I used to buy 50 elks and found more recently, that about 5 i could use. now i like a very hard tip and that might be why, but additionally i went through them about every 6 weeks. With the Talisman tips i have had 1 on since September, its the hard Buffalo(which i think give a bit more grip than the pig skin due to the nature of the skin) and it is still fine, loads of life left in it, with very little maintenance and i play a lot of snooker, both practise and tournaments. Never had a tip last as long as that but the Talismans do for me. Think of the consistency when u don't need to keep changing your tip.
Best advice, Try for yourself. there are loads of different type tips, you just need to find the one for you.

just a quick question i'm confused with all the options.... which Talisman tips the Pro or WB tips are higgins, ronnie using and which are the best for snooker any help would be much appreciated

                      Comment

                      • they use both in the hard option, although John has recently found the WB his preferred choice. That does not mean they will suit all. Both options are fine for snooker. you just need to judge what firmness is best for you. i would say the soft are like a med-hard good elk and the med like a very hard elk and the hard, just a bit harder again, although not too much. the only thing you will find is that the chalk goes on different but i have hardly ever miscued with mine. I also switched chalk a while ago, now using Master Green. a bit softer than triangle with better coverage IMO. hope this helps.

Forgot to mention i have 2 to try one i know to be a Talisman Pro Soft, another i have is just black with a gold H on the back will this be a Talisman Pro Hard or are they the same colour as the softs or will it be a Talisman WB hard as its black??? hope i'm making sense here.

Like everyone else i've found the quality of elks & bd's not very good with only a few of each any good from a box of 50, the Bds in particular have been shocking.
I've tryed Mike's single layer which are the best i've used so far, but thought i'd have a go with the Talismans as i thought no good talking about stuff until you've tryed it...
Had the Bds & Elks still been as good as they once were , i may not have tryed anything else at all..........
