i have near enough always used elks. I have tried the progranite which is near perfect at the start but after a couple of hours they dont grip as much i found which leads to frequent miscueing and the sound on contact begins to change too. Also i had alot of trouble after a miscue it left chunks out of the side of the tip.
If you dont like elks and you prefer a harder pressed tip then i would recommend the titan jupiter tip.
Buts elks are as good as any imo

Was using Talisman soft and getting on well with them. Put an elk on to experiment and couldn't string two balls together! Definately sticking to hard tips now. Got some pro granites from ADR as the Talismans are a bit pricey and I like them.Oh, and that's a bad miss.

OKIES. so this morning i got a phone call from a good friend of mine, early in the morning. he called to tell me his pool cue (9mm) tip had gone soft and that he needs a new one for a tournament up in brisbane (queensland, australia). knowing how fussy he is with these things, i decided it be a good idea i get to it. His ideal tip has always been 9mm elks, but only the hardest of hard ones in a box. why? cause they have a lot of feel but dont throw as much. i didnt have any 9mm elks on me at the time and i knew he didnt either. so i had to go get some.
anyways, at this store near my place, i bought 5 9mm elks, just because i knew even if i pick out 5 hard ones, he might not like it n ill have to change it a few times before he likes one. the lady at the store showed me these other tips, she told me they were crap chinese tips. they came in white cardboard box just like the elks, but without any label or anything like that on the box, and they had heaps of intense blue chalk on the outside of them. anyways i picked one up, gave it the fingernail hardness test etc, did it to a few of them, and they seemed quite firm. so i decided it couldnt hurt to get 3 10mm and 2 9mm ones.
i rocked up to our snooker hall where my mate works, and decided i might try a few different tips on his cue to see if he likes them, since hes never tried anything BUT an elk. i decided id retip a house cue with a 10mm tip, just to see how easy or how hard these tips were on the inside. to my surprise, they were quite firm, very similar to a VERY HARD elk, of which you might find only 4 or 5 in a box. i decided id try it on his cue. sat there for 20 mins with a snooker cueball bashing it in so it feels played in.
he then tried playing a few shots with it and was very happy. apparently its hard, grips well, has lots of feel, responsive AND almost has no throw compared to his other tip. i gave it a try and i must say, i was very impressed by these 'no named' chinese brand tips.
the tips look a bit rubbishy, thick chalk layer on the outside, really inconsistent in height of each one, but having gone through 2, i must say i like them for an alternative to the pro granite. theyre not as hard, but they play in to a good level. sorta like the diamond plus, but they dont start out so soft. they start out a bit firmer than an elk. im thinking of asking the store to buy me a few boxes as i cant seem to find similar looking things elsewhere. just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the same kind of tips?

@BoBnoGG!n
As far as I know, they are the TITAN tips from china! They are not to be found over the internet and I've never seen them in shops here as yet. A friend of mine brought them to our club when he came to Munich/Germany about 1 1/2 years ago (I think from Kuwait). Anyway a few of our players liked the tip and started to use it. The only thing is if we/they need new tips, they are sent from our friend in Kuwait.
I think they sound like a marble when playing with them at least at first, and I stick to my Talisman medium or at the moment a Kamui black MH.
