  • Heavier Balls in the test next season?

    Hi

Maybe anyone noticed this, too ...
Just minutes ago during the GP Final, Mile Hallett mentioned that during the first tournament in the coming season, heavier balls will be tested by the players.

Does anyone know more about tthat?

Well this comes as a complete surprise to me. I find it hard to believe that such a thing would be tested at a tournament with important ranking points at stake.

It isn't April 1st today, is it?

They were talking about the kicks and that they could be avoided (or the damage decreased) by using heavier balls... didn't notice the "testing on a tournament" part, but this doesn't mean much, my English is so bad, I misunderstand things all the time...

interesting this as our every day balls up our local club are quite old and seem a lot heavier than the match ones (not a year old yet)we use,its very rare that any one gets a kick even though they are in quite a bad state, with the new ones you seem to get at least one kick a game
any one know what a snooker ball weigh's and if there is a higher/lower limit
and i'll have a weigh in,the lads will love this one lol oh i can hear the trainspotter jokes already
So it's Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy

The commony used Aramith Tournament Championship balls are 140-142 grams
There's nothing mentioned in the rules about the absolute weight, just the variations in a set.
The Aramith Premier balls (green box) are much lighter (about 110-115g if I remember correctly) and play strange.

drlog147, you mention old balls ... I know that the old billiards balls (crystalate or bonzolines) weight about 150grams and some players say they were better to play than the current balls.
