      Mike,

Will it, by any chance, be made of ground eagle beak, pure gold and jam?

        Ozzies

[IMHO] Osborne joints are the best and most reliable without a doubt..

In my opinion, there's nothing to choose between my own, Hunt/Osborne, Parris, Wooldridge. I will say though that I prefer a standard thread which is non-quick release, but that's only my view on it.

To reply to Mike W, my joints may look a little like J.P's but their a metric thread and not imperial, so they aren't the same. Plus, mine are definitely UK made, which sadly means they cost more too.

From what I've seen, I'd be lying to say one is really any better than the other from the above bunch, they'are all very good reliable joints. It's not worth giving it too much consideration when choosing a cue, although ADR's point on the weight issue might be one to bare in mind.

'other'- a joint made from a Silvino Franciso dodgy import, or a cheeky Alex Higgins spliff would make the best one, IMO.

I noticed that for osborne cues that its a two piece cue and it has this brass joint fitted to the centre or the butt of it but for some reason and it has a long hole drilled in the bottom of the butt of it. It looks to me that it seems to be cut to a certain length which im not sure why and what for? it also has this brass ferrule fitted. does anyone know why this is ? > >

Your cue will be whippy because of the timber used in the shaft, and, has nothing to do with the joint.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using any type of grease or wax on the joint, there's just no need to do that, as it does nothing to help it. The very best way to ensure you cue joints up well is to keep the joint clean. Use a soft cloth to clean the faces that meet together (the flanges) and also, clean the thread itself on the male side of the fitting.

If your cue has excess spring thoughout the shaft however, this is catagorically not a sign of problem with your cue's joint. It will be due to the quality of the shaft material, although without seeing that, I would not want to comment on it being of any kind of inferior quality.

After all, some cues have more spring through them than others.
