Adr147 Tip Guide

Although I know Mike is an authority on cues, I find his statement on Moori tips very strange. A wooden sound is in 99 cases out of 100 not to blame on the tip, but on the person who put it on or the cue itself...

lol. fair comment. but i put it on....

trust me, it was fitted properly, and the cue was a good 'un.

but maybe it was a duff one. doesn't matter, my tips play better....

Probably it was as you say, just a bad specimen (right word?)?

I'm sure your tips are very good also, and specialised for snooker, which must be an advantage. The weigh difference of the balls must be a factor to consider.

i did in fact have 10 of them and they all looked identical. so personally i doubt it was bad, but it's always possible.

yes, maybe better for pool with the bigger heavier balls and i do in fact say that on the site. quote:

"I am sure they must be good for American Pool if you believe everything you hear. But as a Snooker tip - don't think so..."

you should try my 14mm laminated tip. as an experienced pool player i would value your opinion on a direct comparison to the moori

the biggest problem with the moori is the hercules h2 - same thing much cheaper and better grip.

I would love to test the laminated, unfortunately I only have 13 mm cues. Maybe it can be filed down?

yes - very good grip actually grips a bit too well for me!

Good, I'm no good at tipping cues I'm afraid. I perfer playing with them and let someone else do the boring stuff!

I've made a mental note, so will look for your tip next time I need one, so maybe I'll get back to you when I've given it a shot so to say.

guide is designed to make it simple i am pretty sure neither mike nor trevor use that method either - too time consuming but great for one tip!

Chopping Block, Or No Chopping Block?

Hi ADR,

I've read a book and it says about re-tipping. It says you should not use the chopping block method when cutting an oversize tip down. You advise in your tip guide about cutting little bits off to get an oversized tip to fit the cue, according to this book, if you use the chopping block method, it breaks up the fibres.

What are your views on this?

BTW, The book was 'The Snooker Gym, Training Guide Series-Tip Mounting Made Easy' By Nic Barrow. (Highly Recommended!).

what difference can a chopping block make? the only thing that splits the tips as far as i know is a blunter blade.

by the way anyone who write articals called the role of your soul is a bit suspect in my humble opinion! nick looks to me like you would not leave him alone with your children!!

I guess its everyones different opinion and if somebody has good control in tipping then they could keep the tip in very good condition, is what I think.

Nic is a very knowledeable person, I know what you mean about Roles of your Soul though!!!
