Just trim the ferrule with HSS cutters.
I use carbide cutters for some ferrule materials (phenolic, stainless steel) but with brass it is pretty straight forward.
I thought all cue makers pretty much do the same thing...dont they?
With this tenon cutter is it easy to get the shoulder 90 degree to the tenon?

Hi, I am looking to purchase a ferrule cutting machine but just wondered before I buy what is the smallest diameter it will cut to as I am looking to go down as far as 7mm. But looking on the USA websites it states that It accommodates cues from 11mm to 15mm, I know this is the size of cue they use on the American tables.

If it's a Tweeten one, it'll definitely do down to 9.5mm tips and probably much smaller, as I ordered a second hand one from the States and it does the trick fine. Only thing I've found is that you have to be careful not to tighten it too much, or put some thing around the cue to protect it as it can dent the cue whilst gripping it.

Think thye might have different sized collets but I only had one.
Never tried to go down to 7mm. May be file it by hand from 9mm ish?Last edited by poolqjunkie; 8 March 2012, 07:18 PM.

I have bought a new tenoning machine from a Peradon agent.
I cannot for the life of me get the machine to accept a standard 12mm dowel all the way through the machine, let alone a snooker cue as it was way too tight. and this was with the larger collet 11-15mm and a loose bottom tightening nut.
It seems that even with the chuck removed (and I have tried both the pool cue chuck and the snooker cue chuck/collett as I have both) I can place the dowel/cue inside the chuck/collett but neither chuck will then fit into the bottom tightening nut; both chuck/collett fit into the bottom tightening nut with a cue/dowel.
If I just follow the instructions and try and insert a cue with the nut very loose I can still only get a cue in a couple of inches then it is too tight to move it without damage. The nut seems to be the problem as it will not accept the chuck and cue at the same time.
If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated; I have contacted Tweetens to see what they think.
