  • NorthWales-Cases the new Cheddar Classic?

    Hi Guys

Dont know if you've noticed his leather cue cases on Ebay but ive been watching this guy for a few years.

His name is Crispian Jones he has been making and selling leather cue cases for a few years now, just thought he deserved a bit of credit onhere.

He is obviously living his dream of making and selling leather cue case and is doing a VERY good job of it, so if anyne is looking for a new cue case take a look at his site.

    www.northwales-cases.co.uk

Looks to be the new cheddar cues quality wise, what does everyine else think?

Crispian makes the cases himself by hand and the quality is very good.
Each one is a work of art, how refreshing in a world of mass production

craig i am with you on this one my friend Crispian is a top guy and the cases are superb. I own I think it is image 14, the tan case with patch work inlays and it is absolutely superb. I sent him my cue and extensions and he worked the case around them, to get a slightly narrower case than standard, the inside is also equally superb with a hell of a lot of work gone into it. I used to have two cheddar cases and this is right up there with DJ Allens work
Its not how well you play its how good you look playing that counts!

they look very good apart from 1 thing he doesnt seem to get the leather to pull tight as it goes round the ends of the case i have seen these cases on ebay and they all seem the same . they still look good though if i was in the market for a new case i would go for a stamford leather case but thats just me.

same problem as with every case the brass work is a little flimsy - i wish someone would design good hinges and catches for cases.

The other thing I notice with NorthWales Cases is that there are no leather safety straps around the case on each side, so the weight of the bottom half of the case and its contents is supported entirely by the catches. If they should not be secured properly there is always the chance that the bottom could fly open, depositing the cue onto the floor, or even worse, the street.

There is something that seems to be a design omission in all the leather cue cases I have seen where the carrying handle is on the top, rather than on the side as with ali cases, and this includes the Cheddar Classics that I got only last week. Because all the weight is hanging off the top side of the case, and also with the pressure of the internal padding against the cue, extensions, etc, there is no effective seal around the edge of the case - indeed on mine there can be a gap of anything up to 2mm in places (see pic). Travelling to matches in London as I do by public transport and on foot, I am exposed to the elements. Given the kind of weather we've experienced today, I would be very concerned that on opening the case I would find my cue and/or the tip wet or damp due to the rain getting in.

I have implemented a simple DIY modification by attaching a thin strip of trimmed plastic draught-excluder all the way round the inside, stuck on with double-sided tape, to prevent water getting in through the gap (see second pic). I haven't tried it yet, so don't know how effective it will be, but I wonder why something similar is not incorporated as a matter of course by manufacturers?

This seal issue can happen. I got rid of my last case because of that. I asked Paul from Stamford cues if the seal was flush on his cases and he told me for what I was getting it was. He was true to his word my case is sealed all the way round.

Sorry about that mate, just over reacted a bit no offence ment.
Crispian is making my new case, one that will fit two cues with one of them measuring 58.5 inches long, I cannot wait to see it.

So now you've got your posing case sorted, buy one that does a better job of protecting your cues for £20. G-teed no snipe remarks of "flash *******" every time you walk in a club.

I would point out that Ray Reardon lives just across the bay from me. Only snag is, he's WELSH!
