Hi, yeah in my experience the Aramith Tournament Champion sets are by far the best, and if your club does'nt have them it is well worth taking your own set with you when you play, because if you don't and end up using old club sets then basically you are robbing yourself of a decent game of snooker. More to the point you will never ever improve as a result! Club sets which invariably are old will almost certainly have a smaller than usual sized cueball which coupled with the fact that it is already lighter in weight than is exceptable, makes playing snooker almost impossible. Old economy sets were made from polyester so if that does'nt put you off using them nothing will.
It a nightmare when you play in a snooker league that has clubs who use the club sets for matches. Firstly it takes all the fun out of the game and secondly you have to ask yourself why would they do it in the first place?
Its bad enough having to play on tables with massive pockets but thats another post altogether!!! :snooker: :snooker: :snooker:
    Cheap and Cheerful! 😄

I made my highest break so far today (no, I am not going to tell you how high, it would be to embarrsing) and we played some great snooker and safety shots.

      wow, I love snooker!
Good to hear about your top break, I did the same about 4 frames into playing with different balls, wasn't a particularly big break either. However, it gave me a great deal of confidence and using the balls regularly on half-decent tables has definately helped me improve my game.

The balls that came with my 6ft table were absolute garbage, compared to the Aramith balls I now have (pool, at least, Snooker ones to follow very shortly). They looked rubbish and played rubbish as well. I was amazed, I opened the box and they looked like they were five years old or something, no shine at all!

sometimes I really wonder how bad some billard center owners look after their equipement: the cues have hardly any tipps left, the balls look old and wasted and often even the tables look bad. I came to places where they didn't even care for the dirt on the tables. that's why I always bring my own brush... to some amusement of other players.

            I got mine from here:

            http://www.thurston.co.uk/Pages/Prod...CategoryID=137

Not a bad price to start with (even if you include Thurston's delivery charge. They're very quick though, I have made two orders from them and both came in a couple of days or so).

Even better if you make a large order from them, as you only pay one lot of p&p and they charge a lot less than many other places, for example a brass spider costs around £4 from them: it seems to be around £8 or £9 everywhere else - I suppose they make up for it with the delivery charge, but if you make a large order, you save a hell of a lot. I have seen Premier Aramith around other sites, but everywhere else seem to do them for a higher price. I have no complaints with mine at all: they look beautiful and their playing characteristics match their looks!

One question: the Aramith cleaner recommends cleaning the balls after every game. How often do you guys clean them? Every game, or even every session is a bit much I think (unless you're just talking about the cueball).

And did you buy a ball case for them, or do you keep them in the box they came in?

I have an aramith premiere set, and a aramith tournament. The best balls are Aramith Tournament, or crystalate. Aramith premiere balls are lighter and not so shiny. These are better than the chinesse balls , but anyway the tournament balls are expensive but are much better on any type of cloth.
Really? Then the tournament ones must be like mirrors then, because I got some Aramith Premier a couple days back and they're extremely shiny. I'd recommend everyone who has recently got a 6ft snooker table to ditch the balls that came with them (unless they're Aramith, or equal quality, of course, but that's unlikely. I don't know what sort of balls come with a fullsize table).

My snooker mate and me have made us a gift for christmas. We bought a set of Tournament balls.
Most of the cases you get for the balls look like the 10,-- artifical leather attache cases which we dislike.

So we bought an aluminum case here:

                  http://www.alucases.com/

They have some cue cases of neglectable quality but really cheap and they have a ball case from aluminum which is OK. No Rimowa but it does the job without looking too ugly.
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

Bongo Can you please clarify for me? Later on in this thread there is a reference to a site selling snooker balls (Thurstons I think). I looked the site and they're selling Aramith balls at 2.1/4"? as well as the standard 2.1/16". What are the bigger balls used for?

I think American Pool balls are 2 1/4 so I'd imagine the 2 1/4 (bigger) snooker balls could be used on an American Pool table and that's what they're made for.

Phil/Cueman Just took delivery of a set of Aramith Premier balls (52.5mm) and stuck them on my Mums kitchen scales. Looks like they average out at around 123g each. This seems a bit light to me as I read that the Tournament Champion balls average around 141g. Wasn't expecting there to be such a big difference and have started to wonder if I've got fakes as I got them from e-bay. I've still to play with them so I guess that will be the acid test as to whether they're any good or not. They certainly don't feel much different to the balls I am used to in my club. Any thoughts?
If the weight is correct at around 123g its got me wondering how on earth you can adjust to playing with 141g balls. Must be very strange.
PS Guess my Mums scales could be dodgy but it certainly doesn't affect her baking! Luvverly!

I wouldn't use the premier balls anymore, just stick to Super Crystalate (my favourite) or TC's. Put simply you can't go from using one to the other and adjust easily. They are OK for most club players who want a decent ball without being too competitive but if you play league snooker or regular competition then you really need to be using professional quality balls as most well run leagues/tournies will use TC's.

The only great benefit of premier balls is the effortless screwback you can generate, however top spin has the opposite effect as the ball doesn't push through when looking to split the pack!
