Tip Shapers: Any Good? If so, Which one?

Tipped my cue recently and it was an ok Job but trying to clean it up and do over again, Have a few new tips on the way. I noticed a guy at my local club had a tip shaper, Do you find these any good or should I just use the usual fine sandpaper? If I should get one, Which one I notice two main types...Thanks guys...

I've never used it, but I think that nothing is better than practice.

Take your time to re-tip your cue, do it carefully and each time you did it you'll get better and better.

If you already use sandpaper, I could not recommend anything else. Keep using it.

Thanks! My first attempt was excellent, Took loads of time and care, Then after loose a few frames I butchered it with a knife trying to loose the overhand that I initally wanted lol.

So have some nice blue Diamonds on the way

Have you ever visited Mike Wooldridge's site. Here you can find a very detailed guide on how to change your tip.

Ask adr147 for his guide. It contains very good information either.

I have one of these Willards, looking like a silver hat. It will shape the tip to a specific radius.
It is by far too brutal and will ruin the tip.
Sandpaper wrapped around a cork brick is the best and you can do a more individual tip form.

Sandpaper on its own...nothing else. Always carry a little in my case, In a self sealing bag...nothing worse than sand grains in the case and rubbing your cue down for you. I get the paper out now and then and lighty scuff it when needed. Thats all you need really.

I use three seperate item to shape and maintain a tip.

1 - A tip file like this:
Very small and fine teeth and fits easily in my cue case.


2 - a foot pedicure file.
Double sided emery board with ahandle to get a good purchase on.


3 - A nail buffer.
Triple grade very fine emery, that is excellent for buffing up the brash ferrule to get a good shine.
